The Intrepid Sea, Air & Space Museum celebrates the 27th annual
Fleet Week, to be held from May
20 – May 26, 2015. Fleet
Week is America’s premier tribute and “thank you” to the men
and women who serve in the armed forces. Fleet
Week activities at the Intrepid Museum are proudly supported
by Coca-Cola.
The following Fleet Week activities will be held inside the
Intrepid Sea, Air & Space Museum and on Pier 86 (46 Street
and 12 Avenue, Manhattan). Events
on the pier are free and open to the public; events in the
Museum are free with Museum admission. This year’s special
events and displays include:
Wednesday, May 20
To kick-off the annual Fleet Week events, come watch as
Naval and Coast Guard ships with men and women manning the
rails sail up the Hudson River into New York City, traveling
past Intrepid’s Pier 86 before docking at Pier 92. Arrival

Four U.S. Naval Academy Yard Patrol boats will dock at the
Intrepid Museum’s Pier 86.
Throughout the day, live
demonstrations, scavenger hunts and a family aviation
gallery walk will be presented by Intrepid Museum educators,
and Fleet Week themed Tour Guide Talks will take place on
the hangar deck.
Museum is open from 10:00am–5:00pm.

The 24th annual
Salute to Freedom gala will honor William
H. McRaven, Adm. (Ret.), chancellor of The University of
Texas System, and Ursula
M. Burns, chairman and CEO of Xerox Corporation. To purchase

Friday, May 22
10:00am–5:00pm:
Four U.S. Naval Academy Yard Patrol boats will be open for
free public tours. Displays, activities and demonstrations
from NASA, the Office of Naval Research, U.S. Coast Guard,
U.S. Fleet Forces Command and the American Legion will be
presented on Pier 86. Live demonstrations, scavenger hunts
and a family aviation gallery walk will be presented by
Intrepid Museum educators, and free Fleet Week themed Tour
Guide Talks will take place on the hangar deck.
7:30pm -
Join the Intrepid Museum as it kicks off its 7th annual
Summer Movie Series with a FREE screening of Top
Gun on the
flight deck! The film will be introduced by Scott
D. Altman, former NASA astronaut and flying double for
Maverick (Tom Cruise) in the film. A young Navy F-14 pilot
at the time, Altman’s skills are evident in some of the
film’s most memorable flying sequences.
Bring your lawn chairs, picnic
baskets and blankets. Doors open at 7:30pm and the film
begins at sunset, weather permitting. Space is limited.
Seating is on a first come, first served basis, and there is
no admission after 8:30pm. Alcoholic beverages are
prohibited.

Meet three distinguished
aviators and discover first-hand what it takes to pilot the
aircraft exhibited on Intrepid. Military officers, test
pilots, veterans of combat, and NASA astronauts, Scott
D. Altman, Ron Garan, and Greg C. Johnson have
flown some of the most sophisticated and groundbreaking
aircraft and spacecraft ever developed. Join them as they
share their thrilling flying stories with friend and former
NASA colleague Mike
Massimino, now Senior Advisor, Space Programs at
Intrepid and Professor, Mechanical Engineering Department,
Columbia University. Program is free with museum admission.

Special talks by NASA will take place in hangar 3. Free with
museum admission.

and the American Red Cross. Live demonstrations, scavenger

Monday, May 25—Memorial Day
11:00am - Honor
the men and women who have made the ultimate sacrifice while
serving in the United States Armed Forces at the annual
Memorial Day commemoration ceremony along with hundreds of
veterans, representing wars and conflicts from WWII to the
present, and their families. This annual, patriotic ceremony
will include the unfurling of a 100-foot American flag, the
playing of Taps, a ceremonial wreath laying and a 3-volley
rifle salute. The event is free and open to the public.
Throughout the day, Pier 86 will host displays and hands-on
activities from NASA, the Office of Naval Research, U.S.
Coast Guard, and U.S. Fleet Forces Command. Live
demonstrations, scavenger hunts and a family aviation
gallery walk will be presented by Intrepid Museum educators,
and free Fleet Week themed Tour Guide Talks will take place
on the hangar deck. All
veterans get free Museum admission.

Directions by NYC Metro Bus:
Take cross-town buses west.
M34 (34th Sts), M42 (42nd St.) or M-50 (49th St.) to 12th
Ave. and Hudson River. Intrepid is a short walk North from
the M34 and M42. The M50 drops off immediately in front of
the Intrepid.
Directions by NYC Metro
Subway:
Take the A, C, E, N, Q, R, S,
1, 2, 3 or 7 train to 42nd St., then walk or take the M-42
West Bus to Hudson River (12th Ave). Walk North to Intrepid.
Directions from Water:
Take New York Water Taxi to
Pier 84 and walk a block north to the Intrepid Museum. Or
from New Jersey take the New York Waterway to Midtown (38th
Street) and walk north on 12th Ave to the museum.
