About Publicolor
The work of Publicolor
begins with the simple act
of picking up a paintbrush,
as students add vibrant
colors to the walls of their
own struggling schools,
helping transform drab,
institutional spaces into
stimulating, warm and
welcoming learning
environments. The at-risk
students who continue in our
long-term, design-based
program continuum
participate in weekly
academic tutoring sessions,
as well as weekly
participation in community
service, college preparation
workshops, and career
readiness workshops. All
stay with us through middle
school, high school and even
college. They work alongside
volunteers, parents,
teachers and Publicolor
staff to make positive
changes in their lives and
in their neighborhoods. As
Publicolor enters its 20th
year, our success can be
measured in the number of
students who stay in school,
go on to post-secondary
education, and lead
rewarding, productive
lives! 100% of
our COLOR Club and Next
Steps students have stayed
in school versus 60% of
their peers. 97% of
Publicolor seniors graduated
from high school on time,
compared to 68% citywide. 97% of
our high school students
continue on to 4-year
colleges, vocational schools
and military schools versus 62% of
their peers. And all Next
Steps students are offered
