WHY:
STEAM is an innovative movement for a well-rounded
education that includes Science, Technology,
Engineering, the Arts, and Mathematics. The addition of
"Arts" into the science, technology, engineering, and
math (STEM) equation is imperative; studies have
consistently shown the direct correlation between music
education and greater academic performance, improved
cognitive development, math and reading skills, sense of
community, self-expression and self-esteem. The arts
play a vital role in student?s development and serve as
a long-term skill throughout school, careers and life.
The VH1 Save The Music Foundation is
committed to ensuring that music instruction is a core
component to a complete education that leads to student
achievement and rich learning experiences.
Since its inception in 1997, VH1 STM has
been dedicated to guaranteeing that the art of music is
a part of the lives of children who wouldn't otherwise
have access. Therefore, the organization believes that
it is its responsibility to lead the charge by making
sense of the multiple views of what the emerging concept
of STEAM is and provide parents with the necessary tools
to decide which aspects best fit their child's needs and
goals. By taking this position, it can help shape the
way kids learn and think, both critically and creatively
- impacting their role in society. #PassTheNote and get
