Inside Broadway’s Exec. Director Michael Presser is pleased
to announce that on Monday,
June 20 at The
JW Marriott Essex House (160
Central Park South), the
organization will honor TV & Broadway star Daniel
Dae Kim (Hawaii
Five-O on
CBS, currently starring on Broadway as the King of Siam in The
King & I thru
6/26) and Broadway actress Andréa
Burns (currently
appearing in On
Your Feet) at their annual Beacon
Awards, presented to individuals in the theatre & Times
Square community who have been advocates for increasing
audiences for live theatre and understanding the importance
of Arts and Education in the lives of New York City’s young
people. The first Broadway Beacon Award was given to Carol
Channing in
1995. Hosted
by FOX5 reporter Baruch Shemtov, the Beacon Awards will
also feature a performance from the cast of On
Your Feet.
The evening, which begins at 5:30pm with a cocktail
reception, with the awards presentation and special live
performances at 7pm, will also honor Richard
Fitzgerald, CEO of Sound
Associates, Inc. and Scott
Nadeau, General Manager of the New
York Marriott Marquis. Students from Inside Broadway’s
school program at IS 278 in Brooklyn will also be
performing.
Funding raised from the Beacon
Awards benefit
directly supports Inside Broadway’s theatre education
programs to support our mission of bringing the joys and
advantages of live theatre to NYC’s under-served public
school students throughout the five boroughs. Since
1982, Inside
Broadway (Founder/Executive
Director, Michael Presser) has impacted the lives of
nearly one million New York City public school students with
its one-of-a-kind theatre arts and education programs that
enrich educate and foster new generations of theatergoers.
Michael Presser says that “I
am extremely pleased that this year’s Beacon Awards will be
given to four members of the Broadway community who are
supportive of our mission to bring live theater into the
lives of New York City public school students. Daniel Dae
Kim and Andréa
Burns are both important advocates of making theater
accessible to younger and diverse audiences. In addition,
our two business honorees, Richard Fitzgerald and Scott
Nadeau are also prestigious members of the Broadway
community who recognize the important role that the arts
have in the development of our city’s youth. We are thrilled
to celebrate all four of these distinguished individuals.”
Inside Broadway was
established in 1982 by Michael Presser. Today, Inside
Broadway reaches over 20,000 New York City students each
year and develops and produces touring equity musical
productions as well as a wide range of educational programs
that allow participants to interact with professionals in
the field and experience theatre hands-on in the classroom.
