The
Jewish Board of Family and Children’s Services
(The Jewish Board), New York State’s largest human services
nonprofit, will honor
longtime supporters
Erica Schwartz,
Emily
Steinman and Fred & Ann Yerman at
the organization’s 2016 Spring Gala on
Thursday, April 7, 2016, at The Plaza Hotel.
The event is expected to attract more than 350 guests and
raise more than $1 million for The Jewish Board.
|
“The Jewish Board thrives because of the
commitment of individuals like those we will honor on April
7,” said David Rivel, Chief Executive Officer of The
Jewish Board. “Without their support and leadership, a year
like the last, during which we successfully absorbed $75
million in new programs from FEGS, would not have been
possible.” |
At the Spring Gala, board president Alice
Tisch will present Ms. Schwartz with the Saul Z. Cohen
Leadership Award in recognition of her outstanding board
leadership in the areas of governance and fundraising. A
Jewish Board trustee since 2005, she is Vice-Chair of the
Governance/Nominating Committee and was until recently Chair
of the Early Childhood Committee, on which she still serves.
Under her stewardship, the popular Ladies’
Night Out event has raised more than $500,000 for The Jewish
Board’s early childhood programs. |
Mrs.
Tisch will present Fred and Ann Yerman and their
daughter
Emily
Steinman with the
Madeleine Borg Lifetime Service Award.
A former President and the current Honorary President of The
Jewish Board, Mr. Yerman is a longtime trustee who joined
the board in 1981. Ann Yerman is a trustee of
Westchester Jewish Community Services, a sister agency,
and the
couple is active in UJA-Federation. The Yermans’ daughter
Emily Steinman has continued the family tradition of smart,
committed and thoughtful philanthropy by serving as a
trustee of The Jewish Board and as Co-Chair of its
Government Relations Committee. |
Saul Z. Cohen, for whom the Saul Z. Cohen
Leadership Award is named, was President of the Jewish Board
of Guardians and instrumental in helping the organization
merge with Jewish Family Service to form the present-day
Jewish Board of Family and Children’s Services (The Jewish
Board). |
Madeleine Borg, for whom the Madeleine Borg
Lifetime Service Award is named, was a lifelong advocate for
children and for greater access to mental health services.
She served as President of what is now The Jewish Board from
1942 to 1952, was an early organizer and leader of the
Jewish Federation, and founded America’s Big Sister
movement. |
For more than 140 years, the Jewish Board
of Family and Children’s Services (The Jewish Board) has
been helping New Yorkers realize their potential and live as
independently as possible. We promote resilience and
recovery by addressing all aspects of an individual’s life,
including mental and physical health, family, employment and
education. Across the five boroughs and in Westchester, we
serve more than 43,000 New Yorkers from all religious,
ethnic and socioeconomic backgrounds each year. For more
