National Kidney Foundation will
partner with Children’s
Health/Children’s Medical Center to
celebrate the grand opening of the Children’s Nephrology
Unit and recognizing children who attend Camp Reynal.
Camp Reynal is a one-of-a-kind summer camp which has served
over 1,400 children with kidney disease since its creation
in 1992. Serving over 100 children annually, Camp Reynal is
a unique week long experience which lets medically fragile
children take part in outdoor activities while learning
about kidney health. Partnering
with Children’s Health/Children’s Medical Center Dallas and
Cook Children’s Hospital and other organizations, Camp
Reynal serves children ages 8 to 16 by providing daily
dialysis and on-site medical care, while Camp facilities
such as horseback riding, swimming, fishing, and archery
offer new experiences to campers.

* 10:00 a.m. until 2:00 p.m.: Kidney
screenings. Free and open to the public. No appointment
necessary.

In recognition of World Kidney Day, the National Kidney
Foundation will partner with the Dallas County Health and
Human Services to provide a free kidney health check. “Kidney
disease often develops slowly with few symptoms, and many
children and adults don’t realize they have kidney disease
until it is advanced,” said Zach Thompson, Director of the
Dallas County Health and Human Services Department.
What to expect at the event: Risk
survey, blood pressure check, body mass index measurement,
an opportunity to speak with a healthcare professional, free
educational materials and for individuals at risk, an ACR
urine test for albumin (a type of protein). Must be 18 years
of age or older to participate.
