WHAT: Award
winning journalist and author Genevieve Shaw
Brown will host the 18th annual
IDEAL School of Manhattan gala, “Moving Our
World,” featuring cocktails, dinner, dancing,
raffle and auction.
This year’s gala will honor current leaders in
social justice and disability rights who have
been pioneers of inclusion, moving our world forward.
Each of the honorees has worked with IDEAL’s
students at the school’s Civil Rights Community
Day and has built a lasting connection to the
school’s mission and students.
This year’s honorees include:
· Judith
Heumann, acclaimed
disability rights activist, author, teacher,
whose bestselling memoir Being Heumann is being
made into film;
· Heidi
Latsky, acclaimed,
innovative, and influential leader in physically
integrated dance;
· Charles
Imohiosen, President
and CEO of The Andrew Goodman Foundation;
· Robert
Rodriquez, New
York Secretary of State;
· Katheryn
Russell-Brown, social
scientist, professor of law, and director of the
Center for the Study of Race and Race Relations
at the University of Florida Law School
The
commitment to social justice and anti-bias
instruction at IDEAL distinguishes its
curriculum and prepares its students to break
down barriers and fight biases, and to actively
