Elaine B.
Herbert, born
Feb. 8, 1924,
passed away
peacefully on
Tuesday
afternoon, March
27, 2012
surrounded my
her loving
husband,
daughter, family
and friends at
Lafayette Manor.
Elaine was from
Brownsville, Pa.
, the daughter
of the late
Stephen Ritsko
and Bertha
Rozgony Ritsko.
She was
predeceased by
her dear son
Daryl W. Gregg,
her brother
Edward Ritsko
and her sister
Charlotte
"Tootsie"
Rockwell.
Elaine was a
long standing
member of St.
John the
Evangelist Roman
Catholic Church
in Uniontown and
a graduate of
Brownsville Area
High School,
class of 1942.
She loved life
and loved to
laugh. Elaine
enjoyed
traveling and
had a large
circle of
friends from all
walks of life
which she easily
made with her
gift of
conversation.
Her generous
nature touched
many people,
Elaine gave
rather than
receiving and
was a loyal
friend and
trusted member
of the
community,
always there to
lend a hand to
those
in need.
In previous
years, Elaine
volunteered with
the local
Democratic
party, was an
Avon
Representative
and a Demo
worker at many
local stores
greeting
customers with
various samples
to try. Indeed,
she was always
excited to be
out and about
meeting and
talking with
people. Elaine's
love of children
led her to work
at Echo Day
Care, Central
Christian Church
in Uniontown for
many years.
Elaine was the
happiest when
she was spending
time with her
husband Kenneth
and surrounded
by her family
who she deeply
loved and
cherished. She
especially
enjoyed cook
outs and family
gatherings,
music, bingo and
her now deceased
dogs Romeo,
Juliette and
Sparky.
Elaine is
survived by her
loving and
devoted husband
of almost fifty
years, Kenneth
R. Herbert who
never left her
side, her
beloved daughter
Sara
Herbert-Galloway
and her dear son
Gregory S.
Ritsko, Sr. of
Brownsville and
his wife. She
was blessed with
eight
grandchildren:
Gregory Ritsko,
Jr. (Hiller),
Renee Dillon
(Uniontown),
Bonnie Liston (LaBelle),
Daryl Gregg, Jr.
(Maryland), Chad
Gregg (Vesta 6),
Nicole Gregg (LaBelle),
Justin and Alana
Galloway (New
York). She has
thirteen
grandchildren
and one
great-great
grandchild. A
brother William
Ritsko and his
wife Mary
Francis (
Fayette City)
and
daughter-in-law
Nellie "Bonnie"
Gregg (LaBelle).
Elaine was
fortunate to
have many loving
nieces, nephews
and friends,
although all are
lovingly
remembered it's
not possible to
name everyone in
this obituary.
Her family would
like to
especially
acknowledge and
thank her
devoted niece,
Joyce Deems who
was always there
to help and care
for Elaine in
her later years,
she was like a
daughter to her.
Friends will be
received in the
Kezmarsky
Funeral Home, 71
Pennsylvania
Ave., Uniontown,
PA. on Friday
March 30, 2012
from 2 to 4pm
and 7 to 9pm and
Saturday morning
until 9am when
prayers of
transfer will be
held followed by
a 9:30am mass of
Christian Burial
in St. John's
Roman Catholic
Church with Rev.
James Tringhese
as celebrant.
Internment will
follow at Mt.
St. Macrina
Cemetary in
Uniontown
"I am very
grateful for
all the love
and support
my family
and I have
received
from so many
people.
The
memory of my
mother will
live on
through my
charity. I'm
purchasing
rocking
chairs and
furnishings
needed for
the
children's
room at the
Uniontown
Public
Library in
PA. The many
autographed
books being
sent from
accomplished
authors will
be
prominently
displayed.
These books
and all of
the random
acts of
kindness
show the
people of
the town
that others
really care
about their
community. I
hope to
empower
children and
raise
awareness by
inspiring
literacy
through
education.
All I did
was plant a
seed and
thanks to
all of you,
it is
already
growing into
a beautiful
tree that
will help
many. Who
knows,
perhaps one
day we will
have an
entire
forest. More
to come.."
My mother loved
children and
even helped out
in a day care in
her later years.
She was happiest
when surrounded
by children and
family.
In lieu of
flowers, if you
wish you can
make a
contribution to
"Appalachia, A
Diamond in the
Rough" ( EIN:
27-0974768 )
to the address
below.
With Love and
Gratitude,
Sara
