I met Mary
Kennedy in 1997
at a party at
the Dakota in
celebration of
my friend
Christina
Oxenberg's first
book Royal
Blue. Mary
was vibrant,
well-spoken and
beautiful all at
once. She glowed
with life, much
more than her
husband. She
radiated
goodness. In
retrospect, it
saddens me that
this wonderful
woman measured
herself in terms
of her husband's
fidelity or lack
thereof.
It is
unfortunate that
many women all
over the world
and of all walks
of life tend to
define
themselves
through their
partners' eyes
to the point
where an
unfaithful
husband or lover
translates into
feelings of
unworthiness,
personal failure
or inadequacy,
loss of identity
and
self-loathing.
RIP Mary
Kennedy!
May your head be
held higher
in heaven!
