PALM BEACH, FL -A
few measly raindrops couldn’t dampen the party mood
on Friday, December 4, 2009, as LIFE hosted
the 16th annual "Lady in Red" Gala at The
Mar-a-Lago Club, Palm Beach. Larry King,
whose arrival miraculously brought out the clear
skies and chased away the rain, emceed this
incredible evening with entertainment from veteran
performer Dean of Impersonators, Rich Little.
Lois Pope and Dick Robinson were
Chairmen and thanks to the generosity of Simon
Fireman, who graciously donated $100,000 for the
second year in a row, more than 100 disabled
veterans were able to join the fun.
LIFE’s unwavering supporter, Tiffany & Co.
provided fabulous gifts and prizes for the lucky
guests of the “Lady in Red“. Star Ruby Benefactor
Braman Motorcars generously donated a racy
red convertible Mini Cooper, which went home with
Lorraine and Malcolm Hall. The beautiful décor was
provided in part thanks to a generous in-kind
donation from Susan Bubis and Susan Sachs from Great
Events. Soul Survivors once again provided
top-notch musical entertainment in Mar-a-Lago’s
exquisitely beautiful ballroom keeping guests
dancing until the wee hours of the morning!
Liz and Jeff Bateman ,
Senior Regional Vice President for Tiffany & Co.
were Honorary Chairmen of the “Lady in Red” Gala.
Suzi Goldsmith and Ari Rifkin served as
Co-Chairwomen. Also on hand for this festive and
star-studded kick-off for the Palm Beach Gala Season
were Donald and Melania Trump, Cindy and Vince
Cerone, Vivian Noranha-Ms. Brazil, Paul Pope, Marty
Allen, Mac Schwebel, Gordon Mansfield, Nathalie de
la Valle Fernandez, Patrick Park, Petra Levin, Sunny
and Lenny Sessa, Patty Myura, Lorrain and Malcolm
Hall, Robin and Richard Bernstein, Helen and Richard
DeVos, Mary and Mark Freitas, Elsa Johnson and David
Braun, Amy and Andrew Bellar, and
Mary and Art Wilson.
Adding to the celebratory atmosphere were the
nuptials of Terry and Joe Mendozza, Elisa and
Domenic Papparone’s
30th wedding anniversary and the birthday
of Lois Pope’s daughter Maria Kessel.
LIFE took great pleasure on this special evening to
honor Rhoda & David Chase with The
Philanthropist Extraordinaire Award, proudly
presented Hermé de Wyman Miro, Grande Dame of
Palm Beach, with the prestigious Victoria Award,
Leo Albert was remembered with
The Disabled Veterans LIFE Award, In Loving Memory
and Simon C. Fireman was awarded The Disabled
Veterans Star Award.
LIFE also honored Lynn Chwatsky from Sesame
Workshop with the Disabled Veterans Community
Award, in recognition of its profoundly moving
television special “Coming Home: Military Families
Cope With Change” that aired earlier this year on
PBS.
All proceeds from the evening benefited the American
Veteran’s Disabled for Life Memorial and LIFE’s
Summer Camp Program for underprivileged and special
needs children. For more information, please
