PALM BEACH, FL. – As plans get underway for the 2010 “Time is of the Essence” luncheon, Hearing the Ovarian Cancer Whisper (H.O.W.)
is proud to announce Helene Austin and Paula Cook as chairs for the event.

Austin is a life long resident and native with many community interests and family ties to the area. Her first involvement was helping families
with premature children, which led to becoming an advocate for Pediatrics and latter as a Board Member at St. Mary’s Hospital. She was a Co-Chair of Barefoot on the Beach supporting St. Mary’s Hospital.

She has been actively involved in numerous charitable endeavors including Susan G. Komen, Race for the Cure for the last seven years. She is the current Chairperson of Kid Sanctuary Campus, Inc. and has assisted numerous charities and educational institutions including
Palm Beach Atlantic Universities’ Women of Distinction, Palm Beach Day School, Rosarian Academy and the Palm Beach County Historical Society.

Cook, a philanthropist and Palm Beach resident, is proud to serve as
co-chair of the annual event. “Time truly is of the essence in creating awareness for this often silent killer,” said Cook. “We are thrilled to have Dr. Carolyn Runowicz as this year’s speaker.  Our goal is to reach as many women as possible and share the signs of early detection and learn how we can hopefully one day beat ovarian cancer.”

Cook has chaired numerous events over the years including the underwriting campaign for Rosarian Academy’s Rose Ball, the Norton Museum of Art’s Bal des Arts with her husband Mark Cook and the Annual Dinner Dance for the Community Foundation of Palm & Martin County.  She is also an active member of the Hospice Foundation Board and served as president for the past three years.

Cook and Austin welcome Patricia Cook, Paula’s mother-in-law as Honorary Chair. Patricia Cook’s own charitable efforts are numerous and they are thrilled to have her as a part of this event.

The luncheon, which will be held at 11:30 a.m. on January 25, 2010 at the Flagler Museum in Palm Beach, will feature guest speaker Carolyn D. Runowicz, M.D., director of the University of Connecticut Health Center and the Carole and Ray Neag Comprehensive Cancer Center and holds the Northeast Utilities Chair in Experimental Oncology and is professor of Obstetrics & Gynecology at the UConn School of Medicine.

Ticket price is $325 and a Junior Ticket is $125 for those 40 and under. Major sponsor is Wilmington Trust. For more information or tickets, please contact Jennifer McGrath at 561-837-2285 or 561-262-6343.

About H.O.W.:

In January 2002, with the help of Palm Healthcare Foundation, Jacquie Liggett founded H.O.W. (Hearing Ovarian Cancer Whisper) to encourage awareness. Each year H.O.W. raises money to support research in ovarian cancer by funding the Jacquie Liggett Fellowship. In addition, women with ovarian cancer experiencing great financial need are helped through the Jacquie Liggett Angel Fund. H.O.W is dedicated to promoting awareness of this disease by presenting educational programs about ovarian cancer to women in Palm Beach County. For more information on H.O.W. please call Palm Healthcare Foundation, Inc. at 561- 833-6333.
