Big Apple “Circus To Go”
clowns and see performances by
John Fogarty Musical Entertainment,
Laughing Pizza, “Magic
Al” Garber, the New York Lyric
Circus, and Eventus.
Interactive amusement included balloon art,
juggling, hair-braiding by Pennie England
and Jeannie Milone, face-art design
by Donatella Gagliano, and cooking
with Michael Salmon, chef from “The
Next Food Network Star.” Marvel Comic
Characters Wolverine and Spider Man
and the
501st Northeast Remnant characters also joined in the
festivities. Geoffrey the Giraffe
made a special appearance,
and free rides on the 60-foot indoor Ferris
wheel provided fun for all ages.
Proceeds from the 21st Annual Light Up a
Life will benefit hospitalized children
at the Komansky Center for Children’s Health
at NewYork-Presbyterian Hospital/Weill
Cornell Medical Center, offering them
emotional support, providing cheer through
the Child Life Program and the Big Apple
Circus Clown Care Program, and ensuring that
underserved patients will receive the finest
medical care, regardless of their ability to
pay.
The event attracted hundreds of children,
parents and grandparents who enjoyed rides
on the 60-foot indoor Ferris wheel; exciting
performances by musicians, clowns and
characters; and hands-on, Halloween-themed
activities. This spirited affair was hosted
by Light Up a Life Honorary Chair
Amanda Peet; Founding Chair Kathleen
Burns; Event Chairs Rhonda Erb,
Kathleen Kocatas, Alexandra Mandis,
Alison Pappas, Kate Pickett
and Catherine Shepard; and the
Pediatric Support Committee. Others
attendees were
NewYork-Presbyterian Hospital’s President
and CEO
Dr. Herbert Pardes;
and Dr.
Gerald M. Loughlin,
pediatrician-in-chief at the
Komansky Center for Children’s Health at
NewYork-Presbyterian/Weill Cornell Medical
Center.
