New York, September 23, 2009 - More than 120 delegates, including heads of state, acclaimed artists, Nobel laureates, global CEOs, and international thought-leaders, gathered in New York City for the fourth annual Global Creative Leadership Summit, a platform designed to address the challenges and opportunities presented by globalization. Organized by the Louise Blouin Foundation, an international nonprofit organization, in cooperation with the United Nations Office for Partnerships, the conference develops and proposes solutions to a wide range of the world's most pressing issues, including the financial crisis, global health challenges,
climate change, emerging global security challenges, and development within Africa.
The Summit opened with a series of keynote speeches addressing the threats and opportunities of globalization and our shared responsibility in creating strategies and implementing solutions.
The keynote speakers included Louise Blouin, Founder and Chairman of the Global Creative Leadership Summit; Dr. Dominique Strauss-Kahn, Managing Director of the International Monetary Fund; Pascal Lamy, Director General of the World Trade Organization; Michael Chertoff, former U.S. Secretary of Homeland Security; and Luis Moreno-Ocampo, Chief Prosecutor of the International Criminal Court.
Other distinguished delegates included Pakistan President Asif Ali Zardari, President of Chile Dr. Michelle Bachelet, Prime Minister of
the Netherlands Jan Peter Balkenende, Prime Minister of Finland
Matti Vanhanen, President of the Republic of Poland Lech Kaczynski, media leader and philanthropist Ted Turner, Chief Executive Officer of Bloomberg Ventures Lex Fenwick, Executive Director of Greenpeace International Dr. Gerd Leipold, economist and Nobel laureate Eric Maskin, neuroscientist and Nobel laureate Dr. Eric Kandel, artist Alex Katz, and graphic designer Bruce Mau.
The Global Creative Leadership Summit is focused on global poverty, global health, and global wealth, and where they intersect.
"The ripple effects of the financial crisis which began in the U.S.
and Europe are now being felt worldwide, severely affecting the most vulnerable communities of Africa and elsewhere. This will set the developing world back by a decade and is an example of how interconnected we all are. Only a cross-disciplinary approach by
a united global community can be effective in devising solutions to these challenges," says Louise Blouin, Founder and Chairman of
the Louise Blouin Foundation and the Global Creative Leadership Summit.
