Arts, today
announced
that James
W. Harpel has
been named
to the
nonprofit
organization’s
Board of
Directors.
“With his
extensive
financial
background
and years of
experience
in public
service,
James Harpel
will be a
valuable
addition to
the Kravis
Center’s
Board of
Directors,”
said Mr.
Meyer.
As Senior
Partner of
Palm Beach
Capital
Partners,
LLS, James
W. Harper
invests in
and helps
build small
and medium
sized
companies on
a private
equity
basis. The
firm is also
involved in
direct real
estate
transactions.
In addition,
he is a
founder and
General
Partner of
First
Reserve
Corporation,
which acts
as the
General
Partner of a
series of
private
equity funds
totaling in
excess of
$12 billion,
primarily
concentrated
in the
energy and
power
industries.
Mr. Harpel
also is
involved
primarily as
an
individual
in a series
of ventures
including
Security
First Corp.,
and
Beanstalk
Networks – a
company of
which he is
both a
founder and
Chairman.
Beanstalk is
a managed
software
developer,
focusing on
mortgage
software.
For many
years Mr.
Harpel was
involved in
the
marketable
securities
business and
was the
managing
partner of
Harpel
Advisory
Company,
Inc., which
was both a
registered
investment
adviser and
a hedge fund
manager, and
of Century
Capital
Corporation,
a $2 billion
registered
investment
adviser.
Prior to
that time,
he worked
for
investment
banking
firms and
previously
played a
major
operating
role in the
turn around
of an
NYSE-listed
manufacturing
company.
Mr. Harpel
attended
Harvard
College and
graduated
with high
distinction
from Harvard
Business
School. He
is a Member,
Visiting
Committee,
of the John
F. Kennedy
School of
Government
at Harvard
University,
and Director
of the
School’s
Belfer
Center for
Science and
International
Affairs. A
Member of
the Council
of Foreign
Affairs, he
also is
Chairman of
Dean’s
International
Council at
the Harris
School,
University
of Chicago,
where he
also serves
as a Member
of the
Visiting
Committee.
In addition,
returning
from a
bylaws-mandated,
one-year
hiatus,
both Herbert
Gimelstob andDaniel
Edward
Ponton have
been elected
to new
three-year
terms on the
Kravis
Center’s
Board of
Directors.
Mr.
Gimelstob
was elected
to the Board
in April
2001.
During his
original
tenure, he
served on
and
eventually
chaired both
the Employee
Relations &
Benefits
Committee
and the
Building &
Grounds
Committee.
He has also
served as a
member of
the
Development
Committee
and the
Kravis
Center’s
Executive
Committee
(2007-2009).
During his
hiatus, Mr.
Gimelstob
remained
active as a
member of
the two
committees
that he had
previously
chaired.
Mr. Ponton
was first
elected to
the Board in
April 2000,
and served
as Chair of
the
Strategic
Planning
Committee
from its
founding in
2005 through
2009. During
his recent
hiatus, Mr.
Ponton
continued to
serve as an
active
member of
this
committee.

Board of
Directors
during the
last decade
and it is
great to
have them
back
following
their
bylaws-mandated
one year
hiatus,”
