New York--- Yorkville Common Pantry (YCP), the city’s largest single-site community food provider held its annual Spring Benefit on Wednesday, March 10 at the Bohemian National Hall, a Yorkville landmark. The benefit raised money to feed individuals and families in need, and to support nutrition programs for children and families.
YCP anticipates a 20% increase this year in the number of families in need of food assistance and must plan to serve more than 2.2 million meals in 2010.
According to one of the night’s honorees, Liz Neumark of Great Performances, a catering company also committed to feeding the city’s hungry, “It is our belief that all our neighbors deserve to go to sleep on a full stomach.” For over two decades, Great Performances has run food rescue programs and since 2006, the company has earmarked 5% of its annual harvest from its own farm, Katchkie Farm in Columbia County, to anti-hunger projects.
WHO: Special guests and honorees included:
· Rosanna Scotto, co-host of “Good Day New York” on Fox 5
