(West Palm Beach, FL – May 10, 2010) The Raymond
F. Kravis Center for the Performing Arts recently
completed another successful Lunch & Learn lecture
series, co-chaired by Lee Wolf and the late Natalie
Stone. Hundreds of local fans of classical and
contemporary culture attended the four different
Lunch & Learn events from January through March
2010:
UNIQUE FLOWER OF FASHION:
Iris Barrel Apfel on the Art of Looking Fabulous
Steven Caras interviewed
the quintessential
style icon known for her eclectic melding of haute
couture with thrift shop finds, who has personally
inspired bold developments in the worlds of fashion,
textiles and interior design through her spirited
irreverence and pitch-perfect panache. The
always-colorful Iris Apfel shared behind-the-scenes
stories about her career, family, clientele
(including Greta Garbo, Jacqueline Kennedy Onassis
and Estee Lauder), personal style tips and more.
Ms. Beverly Sommer sponsored this particular
Lunch & Learn event.
LUNCH & LEARN WITH NEW YORK UNIVERSITY
This full-day workshop sponsored by Leona F.
Chanin offered three fascinating lectures:
+ THE LONGEVITY REVOLUTION: The Benefits and
Challenges of Living a Long Life byDr.
Robert N. Butler, the President and CEO
of the International Longevity Center-USA.
+ IN THE SHADOW OF MADOFF: Leadership &
Governance in Nonprofit Organizationsby Naomi
Levine, Special Advisor to the President of New
York University and Chair and Executive Director of
the George H. Heyman, Jr. Center for Philanthropy
and Fundraising.
+ TERRORISM AND THE STEALTH JIHAD IN THE
UNITED STATES by author and documentarian Steven
Emerson, a leading authority on Islamic
extremist networks, financing and operations.
DIRTY ROTTEN SCOUNDRELS
Scoundrel.
Even the word has a scowl-like ring to it. History
abounds with stories of sociopaths, rogues, cads and
wretches – just about every label in the Victorian
moral menagerie – who violated, denigrated and
willfully destroyed their fellow man. At this Lunch
& Learn event, lecturer Lee Wolf examined the
psyches and personalities of these evil perpetrators
of hoax, fraud, murder and mayhem.
LET’S DANCE!
The Making of a PBS Documentary
Emmy award winning PBS filmmakers Witek & Novak have
singled out the lecturer as the subject for
their next documentary film entitled Steven Caras:
See Them Dance. A longtime friend and supporter
of the Kravis Center, Caras shared compelling tales
from his days as a dancer with the New York City
Ballet under the legendary George Balanchine as well
as stories from his luminous career as a dance
photographer. The film also included poignant
interviews with such dance icons as Jacques
d’Amboise, Patricia McBride, Mia Michaels and Rasta
Thomas. Sneak-preview footage of the film along with
a collection of Caras’ arresting dance images
accompanied this fascinating lecture.
All four
Lunch & Learn lectures were Kravis Center
Cultural Society events, and were held in the
Weiner Banquet Center in the
Cohen Pavilion and included a scrumptious lunch
prepared by Special Impressions at the Kravis
Center, Catering by The Breakers.
