Literacy Partners Appoints CNN Correspondent and Visible
World President
Literacy Partners, New York City’s only nationally
accredited adult literacy program, has named CNN
correspondent
Alina Cho and Visible World President and YPO member
Tara Walpert Levy to their Board of Directors.
About Alina Cho
Alina Cho is a national correspondent for CNN as well as a
contributor to
American Morning
on CNN/U.S. Cho joined the network in February 2004.
In
October 2010, Cho returned to North Korea to cover the
historic unveiling of the secretive nation’s next leader Kim
Jong-un. She last visited Pyongyang in 2008 as part of the
official press delegation traveling with the New York
Philharmonic for the orchestra’s groundbreaking concert.
She also provided a personal look at the division of North
and South Korea through the eyes of her parents, who are
survivors of the Korean War. Cho is one of only a handful of
journalists to be invited to report live from inside the
country.
In
addition, Cho is the host of “Big Stars, Big Giving,” an
annual one-hour special devoted to the charitable work of
celebrities including Madonna, Elton John, Justin Bieber,
Nicole Kidman and Halle Berry. She also covered the historic
election of President Barack Obama. Cho was live from
Chicago's Grant Park, where Obama gave his acceptance
speech.
Cho
was part of the Peabody and Emmy award-winning CNN team that
covered the aftermath of Hurricane Katrina from New Orleans.
Before joining CNN, Cho was an anchor and correspondent for
ABC News. During her tenure with ABC News, Cho was a regular
substitute anchor for World News Now and World News This
Morning. She also served as the network’s online
correspondent for ABC News Live and as a correspondent for
NewsOne, the network’s affiliate news service. Cho reported
from the United Nations during the months prior to the war
in Iraq and covered the sniper attacks near Washington,
D.C., in 2002.
Before joining ABC News, Cho was an anchor with CNBC where
she covered a variety of national and international stories
including leading the network’s coverage of the Sept. 11
terrorist attacks. Prior to joining CNBC, she held several
posts with the ABC affiliate WFTS in Tampa, Fla., including
morning and weekend anchor and reporter. During her tenure
with the affiliate, she earned a regional Emmy award for her
reporting on the 1996 St. Petersburg riots. Before joining
WFTS, she was with Chicagoland Television where she worked
as a reporter for the news network.
In
May 2010, Cho received an honorary doctorate of Humane
Letters from Old Dominion University for her contributions
to journalism. Cho earned a master’s degree in journalism
from the Medill School of Journalism at Northwestern
University and an undergraduate degree in communications
from Boston College.
About Tara Walpert Levy
Named by Advertising Age as one of the top "Women to Watch"
in 2008, to Multichannel News' "40 Under 40" in 2009, and a
finalist for induction into the AAF Advertising Hall of
Achievement in 2010, Tara Walpert Levy has been driving
rapid growth at Visible World since joining the company in
2005.
As the President of Visible World, she has been responsible
in growing the company's products and partnerships with the
country's major cable service providers, television networks
and advertising agencies. She has been instrumental in
making Visible World's solution the leading advanced video
advertising platform and service for television
distributors, programmers, media buyers, advertising
professionals and marketers.
Prior to joining Visible World, Tara was an Associate
Partner at McKinsey & Company, where she was a leader of the
Global Media & Entertainment and Sales & Marketing groups.
She has also worked as an investment banker for Goldman
Sachs and a consultant for The LEK Partnership. Tara began
her career in print and online advertising sales and served
on the Board of Directors of Let's Go Publishing, Inc.
Tara currently serves on the alumni advisory board of
McKinsey & Company, is a member of the Young Presidents
Organization, and is a member of the board of Project
Enterprise, a non-profit focused on micro-lending and
entrepreneurial services. Tara is also an advisor to and
angel investor in online/offline start-ups Refinery29 and
Storage By Mail.
A
sought-after speaker at media and industry conferences on
issues surrounding targeted TV advertising and the shifting
video landscape, Tara also writes and speaks frequently on
these topics for news outlets ranging from industry trades
to national news organizations.
Tara lives in New York City with her husband and twin boys.
