The National Women’s Division of the Albert Einstein
College of Medicine hosted its annual exclusive
event benefiting medical research, the Spirit of
Achievement Luncheon, on May 9th at the Plaza
Hotel. This year marks the 58th anniversary of
the Women’s Division flagship event -- the first of its kind
-- which honors outstanding individuals in the arts, media,
business, government and other fields.
This successful fundraiser raises approximately $400,000
each year to support potentially ground-breaking research at
the Albert Einstein College of Medicine, one of the nation’s
most prestigious medical schools. Approximately 400 of New
York’s most prominent women are expected to attend this
year’s Spirit of
Achievement Luncheon, which
will help advance
cutting-edge studies in breast, ovarian,
uterine and cervical cancers conducted by top medical
scientists at the Albert Einstein Cancer Center.
Celebrated jewelry designer Lorraine Schwartz, whose
luxury pieces have been seen on such stars as
Barbara Streisand,
Beyoncé,
Elizabeth
Taylor and
Jennifer Lopez, was among
the honorees at this year’s event.
Roxanne Palin and Dr. Mark H. Einstein were
also honored. Returning by popular demand for the fourth
consecutive year, MSNBC’s Willie Geist donated his
time and talent as emcee.
Previous
honorees include luminaries such as
Meryl Streep, Cynthia Nixon, Wolf Blitzer, Katie Couric,
Barbara Boxer, Alma Powell, Eleanor Roosevelt, Louise
Nevelson, Eunice Shriver, Marlene Dietrich, Barbara Walters,
Nora Ephron, Diane Sawyer, Glenn Close, Vera Wang and Lena
Horne.
