YORK PARADE ANNOUNCES
GRAND MARSHAL FOR ITS 252nd PARADE.
The St Patrick’s Day Parade Committee is pleased to announce the selection
of the Grand Marshal for the 2013 New York City St Patrick’s
Day Parade. It will be the former Wall Street specialist and
retired Managing Director of Bear Wagner Specialists LLC,
Alfred E
.Smith.
Mr. Smith is the great-grandson of the legendary Al Smith,
Governor of New York, and serves as the Director, Secretary,
and Dinner Chairman for the Alfred E. Smith Memorial
Foundation. He is active in many community affairs and has
received numerous honors from many organizations recognizing
his lifelong endeavors on both sides of the Atlantic.
Mr. Smith sits on the Boards of The Tony Blair Faith
Foundation, Mutual of America, and Provectus
Pharmaceuticals, Inc. He is a Senior Advisor for the Marwood
Group, as well as Kroll Bond Rating Agency. Smith also
served as Chairman of the Board of Saint Vincent Catholic
Medical Centers in New York.

the world’s oldest and largest civic parade that celebrates
“The Faith of Ireland, Irish heritage and Culture"
The Parade which will be held on
Saturday, March 16th, 2013.

Grand Marshal. He is an outstanding Irish American who has
devoted a huge amount of his energy and charisma
contributing to the legacy of the Irish in this great
country. We are delighted he has accepted the honor to lead
us on March 16th and we look forward to a wonderful day
celebrating our Irish heritage with Al Smith at the helm”

The New York City St Patrick’s Parade marched for the first
time in 1762, fourteen Years before the Declaration of
Independence was signed in Independence Hall, Philadelphia.
The Parade is regarded as the most popular of the all the
Parades in New York City, and honors Saint Patrick - the
patron Saint of the Archdiocese of New York and Ireland. The
New York Parade consists only of marchers and each year
hosts some 250,000 marchers and two million spectators. The
Parade has many outstanding marching bands, bagpipers in
marching formations, high-school and college bands from
throughout the United States and from all over the world.
The occasion is televised live to millions of households
nationwide for four hours by host station WNBC Channel Four.

Biography
2013 Grand Marshal
Alfred E. Smith IV
Mr. Smith is CEO of AE Smith Associates a firm he founded in
2009. In December 2006, Mr. Smith retired as Managing
Director of Bear Wagner Specialists LLC, a specialist and
member firm of the New York Stock Exchange, after 35
successful years on Wall Street. Mr. Smith sits on the
Boards of The Tony Blair Faith Foundation, Mutual of
America, and Provectus Pharmaceuticals, Inc. He is a Senior
Advisor for the Marwood Group, as well as Kroll Bond Rating
Agency. Smith served as Chairman of the Board of Saint
Vincent Catholic Medical Centers in New York.
Al Smith attended Iona Prep and Villanova, before he began
his Wall Street career. He worked as an independent floor
broker on the New York Stock Exchange. In 1975, he relocated
to Chicago to join Mitchell-Hutchins, where he served as
Vice President until 1979 when he returned to New York and
was named Partner of CMJ Partners. In 1997, he joined Bear
Wagner
as Managing Director.
Mr. Smith is the great-grandson of the legendary Al Smith,
Governor of New York, and serves as the Director, Secretary,
and Dinner Chairman for the Alfred E. Smith Memorial
Foundation, as well as Master of Ceremonies at the annual
Alfred E. Smith Foundation Dinner for the past 25 years.
Alfred’s work on behalf of charities in New York and
Connecticut is extensive. In addition to his work with the
Alfred E. Smith Memorial Foundation he serves as Chairman of
the Irish Chamber of Commerce of the USA, Director of the
Center for Hope,
former Trustee of Calvary Hospital.
Al is the Chairman of Hackers for Hope, an organization he
founded in 1988 to raise money for cancer research and
treatment. Since their first "tournament" in 1988, Hackers
for Hope has donated a total of over 8 million dollars to
Memorial Sloan Kettering Cancer Center, Saint Vincent
Catholic Medical Centers Comprehensive Cancer Center, and
other organizations committed to finding a cure for and
treating cancer.
