Athletic League, together with NYPD and the law
enforcement community, supports and inspires New York
City youth to realize their full individual potential as
productive members of society. PAL’s philosophy is
grounded in the belief that young people’s individual
strengths and capabilities can guide them to mature,
productive adulthood with our encouragement
and commitment.

Robert
Morgenthau and John Catsimatidis arranged a
distinguished PAL luncheon on Thursday, August 14
featuring John Miller, the Deputy Commissioner of
Intelligence of the NYPD. Over 100 renowned New Yorkers
and dignitaries attended, including Mayor David Dinkins,
Gov. David Patterson, Gabe Pressman, HRH Prince
Philippos of Greece, Tony Danza, Gabe Pressman, Dottie
Herman of Douglas Elliman, Dolly Lenz, and (others from
Jillian) (Far east opera star). All proceeds from the
monthly luncheon benefits the Police Athletic League. |
Mark Simone and
John Catsimatidis provided opening remarks and Rikki
Kleiman did a great job of introducing John Miller. John
Miller has led a prominent journalistic and community
service career, having served for William Bratton in the
NY and LA police departments. John mentioned several
interesting stories learning his journalism craft and
thanked Gabe Pressman for his assistance. He relayed
anecdotes about his encounter in 1986 with John Gotti as
the Teflon Don exited a Manhattan courthouse, jokes with
Barbara Walters from 20/20, his interview with Osama bin
Laden in Afghanistan, many dinner stories with William
Bratton and joked about his Colonel Sanders attire. John
has been a senior correspondent with WCBS, was Asst.
Director of Public Affairs for the FBI in 2005, Head of
LAPD Counterterrorism and Criminal Intelligence Bureau
in 2003 and Deputy Commissioner of Public Information
for NYPD in the mid 90s. he has received many
journalistic awards include two Peabody Awards, a
DuPont-Columbia Award, and nine Emmys. |
Mutual of
America donated the spacious luncheon space as well as
all the food and beverages for the event so every dollar
could go to the PAL. The next PAL luncheon including
similarly distinguished guests to be held the second
week of September. |
