More than 60 people attended
Art + Music last week at the
Manhattan home of
Dr. Phyllis Hattis, founder
of Phyllis Hattis Fine Arts.
The event was graciously
hosted by Caren and Dr.
Arturo Constantiner on
behalf of American Friends
of Tel Aviv University and
included artwork, music and
cocktails, along with
special guest Ambassador Ido
Aharoni, Consul General of
Israel in New York.
Dr. Phyllis Hattis, an art
historian, displayed a
personal collection of
stunning artwork for the
affair for guests to view
throughout the evening, as
they enjoyed cocktails and
hors d'oeuvres. Dr. Hattis'
late husband Dr. William
Rubin was director of the
prestigious Department of
Painting and Sculpture at
the Museum of Modern Art and
played a crucial role in
defining the museum's
character, collections and
exhibits in the 1970s and
80's. Together, they amassed
a beautiful and far-reaching
personal collection that
includes Surrealist and
Abstract Expressionist works
by many of modernism's most
important artists.
Guests also enjoyed an
incredible piano interlude
by Yuval Shapira, who has
performed as a piano soloist
with orchestras including
the Israel Philharmonic and
the Israel Sinfonietta Beer-Sheva,
and regularly performs in
recitals, chamber programs,
and on radio broadcasts in
Israel.
