Stars Joined Forces to Dance for Women’s
Health
Celebrities, medical experts
and dance enthusiasts joined together Saturday,
May 3 at Dancing
for NED, an unabashedly joyous
dance party to raise funds for the Cedars-Sinai Women’s
Cancer Program at the Samuel Oschin
Comprehensive Cancer Institute. NED stands for “No Evidence
of Disease,” the complete remission that is the goal of
every woman with ovarian cancer.
The event held at Unici Casa in Culver City, featured
a special performance from past “So
You Think You Can Dance” contestants
and renowned professional dancers. NED
was the brainchild of writer-producers Dana Baratta and
Melissa Rosenberg. After ovarian cancer impacted Baratta,
the two lifelong friends sprang into action. “We wanted to
support the great work that Dr.
Beth Y. Karlan and Cedars-Sinai are
doing for ovarian cancer research, prevention and
treatment,” said Rosenberg. “And, well, we love to dance –
so a dance party to raise money was the
obvious move.”
Proceeds from the event benefits
the Cedars-Sinai Women's Cancer
Program, one of the nation's top 10 gynecologic oncology
programs. Dr. Karlan is a gynecologic
cancer surgeon and an internationally renowned expert in the
field of women’s cancers. She holds several prestigious
appointments, including a professorship with the American
Cancer Society, and was a Presidential appointee to the
National Cancer Advisory Board of the National Cancer
Institute.
