DALLAS, TX, October 6, 2014: Over 450
guests from Dallas, Houston, New York, Italy, and Israel
came to the Museum of Biblical Art last evening for the
preview reception of “Mysteries, Signs and Wonders: The
Art of Barbara Hines.” The event was chaired by Houston
philanthropist and art collector Dr. Carolyn Farb, hc,
and inaugurated the new National Center for Jewish Art.
Mrs. Hines was accompanied by her husband, Gerald D.
Hines, founder of the international real estate firm
Hines.
Two-thirds of the museum has been devoted
to the more than 60 paintings and works on paper by Mrs.
Hines whose impressionist, yet contemporary style is
inspired by the land of Israel and Judaic themes. Guests
enjoyed a sumptuous Renaissance buffet and music by the
Dallas Symphony Orchestra Quartet. The formal program
began with Dr. Farb who said, “The Museum of Biblical
Art is one of the treasures in Dallas and the world – a
cultural crossroads which embraces tolerance and
understanding through art. The paintings of Barbara
Hines inspire us to reflect on our own sacred feelings
and life for the purpose of a higher reality,” she
added.
Scott Peck, Director and Curator of the
Museum, held a brief interview with Mrs. Hines, asking
what inspires her. “I have studied comparative religions
for most of my life,” she replied. “And I read the
Torah. The images come up, and there isn’t enough time
to paint all that I want to paint. It is my connection
to the divine.”
“And why in particular do you focus on
Israel?” asked Peck. “It is the cradle of
civilization,” replied Mrs. Hines. “Israel is a piece of
the redemption. This moment in time is brief and
passing, and we will come back to that past that was
meant to be and will come again.”
Guests included Laura Hunt, Caroline Rose
Hunt and Robert Brackbill, Sr., Robert Edsel, Kirk
Kibler, MBA Board Chairman, Diane and D. Harold Byrd,
III, Patricia Meadows, Alex Cesaria, Karen and Denis
Boulle, Sally and Olin Lancaster, Charles Ward, Ann and
Charles Duncan, Brenda and John Duncan, Dr. Charles Key
and Linda Stewart, Marie and Mick Seidel, Karen and
Michael Bivins, Janet and Jeff Beck, Veronique and
Hylton Jonas, Wendy and Jeff Hines, as well as fashion
icon, Jan Strimple.
Peck announced that an audio tour with
Mrs. Hines will be coming soon, followed by a movie and
a catalog in the spring. The exhibition will open to
the public on October 7 and be on display through August
of 2015. Selected paintings are for sale, with proceeds
going to the Museum and the Dallas Chabads. Call the
museum for additional details or private tours at

ABOUT THE NATIONAL CENTER FOR JEWISH ART
“Mysteries, Signs and Wonders” is the
inaugural exhibition for the new National Center for
Jewish Art at the Museum of Biblical Art. The new center
will house a special collection by Jewish and Israeli
artists as well as historical and religious artifacts
and ceremonial items for study, with the goal of
bringing contemporary Israeli and Jewish art to a
broader audience.
Educational programs such as field trips,
educational movies, educational audio tours, exhibit
catalogs and art camps, will accompany future
exhibitions in order to engage school students, youth of
all ages and, particularly, low-income schools. Outreach
will be made specifically to Jewish Day Schools, area
Synagogue educational programs, and schools and classes,
as well students from private and home-school programs.
ABOUT BARBARA HINES
Barbara Hines is an international artist
based in Texas, with studios in multiple cities. The
land of Israel inspires her impressionist, yet
contemporary, canvases in which she incorporates actual
soil, gold dust and silver dust from Israel. She is
deeply committed to sharing the beauty of Israel and to
the use of art as a way to bring understanding and peace
into the world—values sorely needed in light of
current-day global tensions.
“Hines’ paintings are breathtaking and
intensely spiritual. They powerfully communicate the
beauty of Israel and the Holy Land,” said Peck.
Barbara Hines is represented by Meredith
Long & Company in Houston. Mrs. Hines and her husband,
Gerald D. Hines, founder of the international real
estate firm Hines, are significant philanthropists and
humanitarians. They have helped students worldwide as
well as architects, artists, and musicians.
Barbara Hines donates 100 percent of her
proceeds from art sales to charitable causes. Certain
works of art in the Museum of Biblical Art show will be
available for sale with the proceeds being donated
equally to the museum and to Chabads of Dallas.
ABOUT THE MUSEUM OF BIBLICAL ART
The Museum of Biblical Art in Dallas
is unlike any museum in the world. It has a simple
mission: to display art with a Biblical theme.
It is one of the few museums in the
country that is devoted to Biblical themes. It was
established in 1967 and named the Museum of Biblical Art
in 1999. Nothing of its size exists in the
United States, making it a treasure trove for art
enthusiasts. Diverse types of art are exhibited
including bronze sculpture installations, drawings, fine
prints, and oil paintings. Specialized galleries have
been created for Biblical Archaeology, Jewish Art,
Religious Architecture, Israeli Art, African American
Art and Hispanic Art.
The Museum is a cultural crossroads,
utilizing art for tolerance and understanding reflected
in the various archaeological exhibits and decorative
art from Israel and the Holy Land.
The MBA's vision encompasses the classical arts with a
call to beauty which emphasizes the Biblical figurative
art illustrating the narratives of the Bible, and a call
to the study of classical Greco-Roman art, archaeology
and architecture.
Museum featured artists Include: John
Singer Sargent, Marc Chagall, Jacques Lipchitz, Ben
Shahn, Paolo Veronese, Francesco Guardi, Agam, Kathe
