Actress and activist Uma Thurman, Ali Wentworth, the Honorable Carolyn B. Maloney, U.S. Representative, the Honorable Bill White, former mayor of Houston, Alan Nichols, Explorers Club president, and John Geiger, Royal Canadian Geographical Society president were among those paying homage to women of real action at 9th Annual WINGS WorldQuest Women of Discovery Awards. (Thurman was emcee.) Legendary oceanographer and author Sylvia Earle delivered the keynote address. Honorees were Felicity Aston, Arita Baaijens, Daphne Soares and Helen Thayer. The event was held with the generous support of Donna Karan's
Urban Zen Foundation.

The 9th Annual WINGS WorldQuest Women of Discovery Awards, which recognizes and celebrates visionary women who are advancing scientific inquiry and environmental conservation through groundbreaking exploration. The annual event is organized by WINGS WorldQuest (WWQ), the leading global resource and advocate for women explorers. The New York-based nonprofit has honored 73 extraordinary explorers since 2003 and provided them with the financial support to continue their critical research.

On October 16th, WINGS WorldQuest held its annual gala at Stephen Weiss Studio honoring four amazing women who were recognized for their outstanding accomplishments in their fields of study. The proceeds from this event will benefit the improvement and expansion of our mission to connect and support women explorers by promoting scientific exploration, education and conservation.
