Some highlights from the evening: Two of our violin students, Angelo Chery and Joshua Wang, from our Global Music Academy Orchestra (GMAO), performed, and were also lent two Violins made by one of the world's greatest violin makers, Christophe Landon, to play on for rehearsals and our concert at Lincoln Center August 27.

The students both spoke about how playing music has transformed their lives, and become an avenue of expression for them.

One of our young soloists who will perform at our Lincoln Center concert, Yahli Hilah, sang an original song called "Believe" last night with rhythm specialist Michael Feigenbaum and Daisy Jopling. Yahli talked about how the opportunities she has had to perform through our programs have completely transformed her level of confidence as a person and musician. She has written an original song called "It's My Time,"  which has been orchestrated by GMAO conductor and music director Dean Fransen, and will be performed at our Lincoln Center concert.

The evening was a preview and fundraiser for our Lincoln Center concert, to expand the awareness of our foundation's mentorship program.

Below is a quote from our GMAO clarinet student Max Abraham about the effect our program has had on his life:

“I would say being linked up with John Lissauer has changed my musical life for the better. He showed me there is a way to live a happy, successful life, filled with professional music. He has helped me identify large holes in my musical abilities, and showed me how to start working on building the bridges over these gaps, eventually filling everything in. If it wasn't for this program I would still feel lost musically, but through this Orchestra I have found a guide through the dark night.”

Daisy Jopling’s “Awakening” Concert Comes to Alice Tully Hall

The Classical/Rock Violinist, Selected Students

and Mentoring Professionals Of The Global Music Academy Orchestra

Set To Perform At Lincoln Center on August 27

New York, NY This August 27, the celebrated violinist Daisy Jopling will stage a connective, educational and entertaining performance at Alice Tully Hall, Lincoln Center, at once accomplishing all of her professional goals. First, she will take the stage with a group of extraordinarily talented musicians to play compositions that embody traditional orchestral music aesthetics as well as a wide array of contemporary musical styles from playful gypsy sounds and introspective jazz moods to celebratory gospel grooves and well-established rock songs. She will also be giving a group of talented young musicians a chance to sit in (after a number of rehearsals) and be mentored by those professionals. Lastly, and perhaps as importantly, she will be raising awareness among the young and old in the audience of the beauty of her music, of this kind of ensemble and of this world-renowned concert hall.

Conducted and orchestrated by Dean Fransen and with special performances by Broadway vocal sensations Justin Sargent, Joni Blondell, Nina Blue and Yahli Hilah, the Awakening program is composed by Jopling, Michael Feigenbaum and Brian Taylor, and has been hailed as “brilliantly entertaining” by broadwayworld.com and “a glorious swirl of colors full of passion and life” by skopemag.com. Worleygig.com called it “uplifting and inspirational” and a “musical odyssey (that) takes the listener on a conceptual, boundary-busting journey.” Through her powerful violin and genuinely sparkling personality, Jopling presents each piece as a touchstone along the path of personal discovery and universal transformation to which people of all ages and cultures can relate.

The professional mentors in the Global Music Academy Orchestra are rehearsing with, and will perform alongside, student musicians of the highest calibre from Manhattan, Brooklyn, Queens, the Bronx, Long Island, Westchester and Putnam Counties. The concert also includes performances by the Plattsburgh State Gospel Choir, members of the Hendrick Hudson High School Treble Makers and the Mahopac High School Chorus.

The mentors will give the students insights into the professional music world. They’ll also provide opportunities to enhance various aspects of their playing, expanding their performance abilities in new musical styles while offering life-changing friendships with the power to influence careers. For a video about the Awakening concert and program, please view this video.

Tickets are available at the Lincoln Center box office and online at lincolncenter.org – http://www.lincolncenter.org/. VIP tickets include an invitation to an exclusive VIP no-host after-party at the Empire Hotel Rooftop to meet and greet the artists and celebrate!

"Daisy Jopling plays classical music with the energy and spontaneity of a rock musician.  She has a lyrical intensity that seems to reach inside you with each stroke of the bow."

Tom Morris, Best Director Tony Award 2012 for “War Horse”
