Prevent Cancer Foundation® Annual Spring Gala
raises more than $1.5 million
WASHINGTON, D.C. — On May 9, the Prevent Cancer
Foundation® hosted its 25th Annual Spring Gala to
advance the Foundation’s mission of saving lives across all
populations through cancer prevention and early detection. The
Foundation welcomed distinguished guests to the National
Building Museum, including members of Congress, diplomats, and
leaders in the business, government, medical, sports, media,
social and philanthropic communities.
Switzerland Ambassador, His Excellency, Martin
Dahinden and Mrs. Anita Dahinden served as honorary patrons of
the event, which had the theme “Switzerland: Postcard Perfect.”
Senators Bill Cassidy and Mazie Hirono were honored as 2019
Cancer Champions for their leadership in cancer prevention and
other cancer-related issues. The senators have demonstrated
their commitment to protecting coverage of services for seniors,
veterans and first responders; prioritizing education on cancer;
expanding funding for biomedical cancer research; limiting youth
access to tobacco and more.
"We are so grateful for the work our cancer
champions have done for our country to help fight for cancer
prevention and cancer patients” said Carolyn Aldigé, Founder and
CEO of the Prevent Cancer Foundation®. “They remind us that
cancer is a bipartisan issue, and that we must work together in
order to stop cancer before it starts.”
Dorys Lizama and Carmela Miglionico
shared their stories about serving patients through the
Foundation’s¡Celebremos
la Vida! (Let’s
Celebrate Life!) breast and cervical cancer screening program during
the “Lighting the Way to Prevention” pledge drive. The pledge
drive raised $106,376 for the Foundation in amounts ranging from
$50,000 to $25.
In 2018, the gala earned the #4 spot among all
charity benefits on BizBash’s Top 100 Events in Washington,
D.C., and is consistently recognized as one the most influential
annual events in Washington.
Gala décor was personally designed by weddings
and celebrations expert David Tutera, who is a member of the
Foundation’s Board.
Throughout the evening, guests bid on
hotly-anticipated items in the silent auction. The gala was a
rousing success, raising a total of more than $1.5 million for
cancer prevention research and community outreach programs like ¡Celebremos
la Vida!
