The Mission
Society began in 1812 to provide food, clothing, and other
materials to the urban poor of the 19th century
in New York City. The organization has continued to evolve
over the years through what the main concerns were in the
city. Currently the organization is focused on ending
multigenerational poverty by facilitating academic
enrichment, college access, and workforce development in
Harlem and at 12 public school programs in Manhattan,
Brooklyn, and the Bronx. Since their beginning, Mission
Society of NYC has provided life-changing opportunities to
over 6.5 million New Yorkers and continues to reach
approximately 5,500 children and parents each year.
