On February 16, Harmony Liu, a teenage girl harmony
ambassador from New York, published an environmental paper
named "Youth Perspective: Analyzing Environmental
Motivation" in the United Nations News, which had a wide
range of social impact and aroused the resonance of people
all over the world.
A good ecological environment is a necessary prerequisite
for the survival and development of human beings, and also
an essential condition for the sustainable development of
society. With the development of the social economy,
improving people's awareness of environmental protection and
reducing environmental pollution and waste of resources have
become the top priority of environmental protection. As the
leaders and builders of the new era, young people should
shoulder heavy responsibility and contribute their wisdom
and actions to the cause of environmental protection.
In her paper on environmental protection, Harmony Liu, on
behalf of the youth group, deeply analyzed the ills of
modern society and how to improve people's environmental
protection motivation from the perspective of youth. She
used The New York State Returnable Container Act and
the environmental protection community in the United States
as examples to narrate how to use incentives to cultivate
people's daily habits, raise environmental awareness, and
benefit from a healthy environment. She advocated for
popularising the amendment, which increased the deposit on a
recyclable bottle to five cents and added to the list of
recyclable containers, in the country, and learning from the
environmental protection community to cultivate
environmental protection habits in daily life. These ideas
not only make policy recommendations from the legislative
level but also go deep into people's daily life. They are
very practical and put forward new ideas and new initiatives
for environmental protection and sustainable development.
As a young world harmony ambassador and blue community youth
ambassador, Harmony Liu has been committed to world peace,
social harmony, environmental protection and sustainable
development for many years. In 2021, the WHO and UNICEF
commended her for taking the initiative to organize junior
high school students to donate to the WHO and UNICEF for the
fight against the epidemic in China and the United States.
She also received a letter from Melissa Fleming, Deputy
Secretary-General of the United Nations Global
Communications Department for thanking her leadership as a
young person who committed to the Sustainable Development
Goals and raised awareness. In 2022, Harmony Liu was
appointed by the United Nations Sustainable Development
Goals Committee as a special youth reporter for Wall Street
Internet TV, and won the Outstanding Talent Award in the
support of the United Nations Sustainable Development Goals
(SDG) Ocean Protection Initiative (SDG's 13) competition
issued by the People's Committee of the United Nations NGO.
In addition, she received the Outstanding Talent Award for
youth perspectives on climate change at a COP26-related
event in Glasgow, Scotland. Harmony Liu once initiated the
"Harmony Global Initiative" to terminate Japan's decision to
discharge nuclear wastewater into the high seas two years
later. It appealed to the world, received praise from the
United Nations and the media, and was taken as a good
example of youth responsibility. In 2021, Harmony Liu won
the White House Volunteer Gold Award, which recognized her
outstanding contributions to world peace, social harmony,
and humanitarianism.
Harmony Liu's initiatives and actions for world peace,
social harmony, environmental protection and sustainable
development reflect young people's close attention to social
issues and reflect young people's sense of social
responsibility and outstanding ability. As a talented
pioneer among the youth group, we believe that in the
future, she will be able to provide advice and suggestions
for global governance and make more outstanding
contributions to the cause of world harmony and
environmental protection.
Harmony Liu (刘盺格)
has actively participated in public welfare activities of
the United Nations, the American community, the U.S.
Congress, churches, and non-governmental research institutes
since elementary school, and took time to do volunteer work.
She became a young ambassador of the UN Economic and Social
Council and the UNEP NGO World Harmony Foundation and was
selected to participate in: Model United Nations
performances, United Nations AIDS Day performances, United
Nations Diabetes performances, and American high school
representatives at the United Nations Youth Congress. She
also represented American high school students at the United
Nations COP26 climate conference and was appointed as a book
editor by non-governmental research on the United Nations
Environmental Protection Day. Therefore, in 2021, Tom Suozzi,
a well-known federal congressman, presented her with the
White House Presidential Volunteer Gold Medal in Washington. |
