The Museum of Arts
and Design welcomed over one hundred guests at Fushimi Times
Square on June 17th, 2023 for their annual Luminaries Pride
Brunch. The MAD Luminaries are young patrons of the Museum
of Arts and Design, aged 21-45. The annual brunch event
brings together friends of the museum to celebrate Pride
Month, and to continue MAD's commitment to uplifting the
work and voices of LGBTQIA+ artists and craft makers.
"This now
annual event is so integral to our programing and serves
to not just connect art lovers with the arts and hear
their stories and struggles and activism for the queer
art movement, but a movement that goes beyond the museum
and connects to the queer community at large." said
Alexander Hankin
“Pride to me is reverence for being
queer, reverence for the history, and how short that
history has been being out and making a difference in
the world. It’s part of the reason I exist at this
point, It’s been a journey, it’s been journey to find a
reason and sit in the reason for the purpose of the work
and myself, activism is part of what I do, just showing
up and being a representation in this totally machismo
world of glassmaking, its kind of a position of activism
I take every day." continued
Deborah Czeresko.
The events panel discussion featured
artists Wes Aderhold, Timothy Hull, and Blown Away
Season One winner Deborah Czeresko and was moderated by
Alexander Hankin. The group spoke about their
