The Junior League of the Palm Beaches (JLPB),
a local women’s volunteer
organization with 81 years of service
in Palm Beach County,
formally celebrated
the end
of
its
2022-2023 season with a cocktail party and dinner held at
the
North Palm Beach Country Club on Thursday May 18th, 2023.
During the “Evening of Champions” themed dinner catered by
on-site Farmer’s Table
awards
were
given to members of the Junior League for recognition of
their dedication to volunteer service with additional grants
awarded to a number of
local non-profit organizations. Annually, the Junior League
of the Palm
Beaches holds over 100 volunteer shifts internally and at
partner organizations in Palm Beach County each year,
contributing upwards of 500 hours of local volunteer
service. |
Outgoing JLPB President Marcelle Burke shares, "To quote the
great Maya Angelou, ‘In diversity there is beauty and there
is strength.’ We would not be who we are without that. We
could not give back to our community without embracing that.
Our Annual May dinner gives us the opportunity to reflect on
our accomplishments over the past year and take a moment to
celebrate and recognize the heartfelt contributions from our
group and local community partners.” |
Community Champion Award |
Susan Schachtel Literacy and Education Champion of the Year:
Tykisha Grant

School.
Tykisha was honored with this award due to her above

Community Partner of the Year: Quantum House |
Quantum House is a hospitality house located near St. Mary’s
Medical Center in West Palm Beach that provides a home away
from home for out of town families undergoing life-changing
medical treatment. Quantum House was founded by JLPB in
2001, and the partnership is still running strong, with
Quantum House providing meeting space and training by their
CEO and JLPB 1994-1995 Past President Robi Jurney, and JLPB
members volunteering for a variety of projects including
Chef for a Day which prepares meals for the families staying
at Quantum House, organizing literacy activities for
children, and other tasks around the house.

Mission Supporter of the Year: Keiser
University Flagship Residential Campus |
Keiser University Flagship Residential Campus, under the
leadership of Dr. Garrett Vonk, campus President and Brandon Strassburger,
Director of Campus Activities, graciously provided
their campus to host JLPB’s inaugural “Miles for a Mission
5K”
in November 2022. The fundraiser allowed JLPB to raise
critical
funds for our community programs.
Recognizing the value in partnering with JLPB, a
collaboration
for training
and community service hours was established with
several
campus activities, including the Cross Country and
Lacrosse teams. |
Community Advisory Council Mini Grants: Best Buddies
($2,500)
and Junior Achievement ($3,000) |
The JLPB Community Advisory Council, under the leadership of
President Elect Chelsea Bellew, provided two mini-grants at
this event. Ashley Schroth and Gina Griffin accepted a check
for $3,000 on behalf of Junior Achievement to continue their
high school heroes program. The grant will be used to
provide training to 600 high school students to turn them
into “heroes” - elementary teachers for a day - to teach
age-appropriate Junior Achievement lessons that will impact
4,200 elementary age children in the community. Tricia
Williams who delivered the keynote address at the event,
accepted a $2,500 check on behalf of Best Buddies, an
organization that is dedicated to ending the social,
physical, and economic isolation experienced by individuals
with intellectual and developmental disabilities through a
global volunteer movement. |
