INTERGENERATIONAL CONVERSATION HOSTED BY
DRESS FOR SUCCESS WORLDWIDE AT
“WOMEN HELPING WOMEN” BREAKFAST
Dress for Success Worldwide
hosted its annual Women Helping Women
power breakfast at The Grand Hyatt New York in New York
City on Tuesday, December 10. This intimate breakfast
brought together clients, volunteers and supporters to
celebrate the success of the women that Dress for
Success serves. This event was designed to benefit the
organization’s Professional Women’s Group (PWG),
an international networking association for Dress for
Success clients that provides support, practical
information and inspiration to those women that have
recently entered the workforce.
Women Helping Women
was graced by three leading ladies at various stages in
their careers—a Pioneer, a Principle and a Protégé—who
imparted the audience with an intergenerational
conversation, weaving together the importance of
compassion, communication and camaraderie between women
and how these valuable connections have helped them
achieve monumental milestones in their careers.
Essie Weingarten
served as the Pioneer during this discussion. Weingarten
founded Essie Cosmetics in 1981, which quickly
grew in popularity and was sold to L’Oreal in 2010.
Alexandra Wilkis Wilson acted as the Principle. The
founder and head of strategic alliances of Gilt
Groupe, Wilson has more than 15 years of
international experience in luxury goods, retail and
finance, and is on the forefront of revolutionizing and
innovating the landscape of luxury e-commerce.
Providing the Protégé perspective was Alexa von Tobel,
the 29-year-old founder and CEO of LearnVest.com,
a financial planning organization that empowers people
everywhere to take control of their personal finances so
that they can afford their dreams. The engaging
exchange between these women was moderated by style/
lifestyle expert and media personality, Tai Beauchamp.
In addition to presenting this new,
interactive platform, Dress for Success also introduced
another unique element to this year’s Women Helping
Women—a pre-breakfast book launch celebration for
the organization’s first published collection of client
stories from around the world, Threads.
This book features firsthand profiles on 20 women
from around the world and represents the threads that
tie all women together, invisible lines that connects us
all, and how these individual threads all weave together
to create a story that’s uniquely universal—a story that
bonds all women together. The attendees of Women
Helping Women were provided with the very first
glimpse of the book—and the very first opportunity to
purchase it.
“Women Helping Women celebrates
women who rise above their circumstance to achieve
self-defined success—women who not only lead the way,
but also help others along the way,” said Joi
Gordon, CEO of Dress for Success Worldwide. “The
new additions that we had to this year’s programming
further strengthen the connections between women by
creating a deeper dialogue and inciting even more
sharing of insights and experiences.”
This year’s Women Helping Women
breakfast was supported by lia sophia, resource® Natural
Spring Water, OSP Group, Steve Madden, Sullivan &
Cromwell, and Peace of Cloth.
