The Polish-American Medical Society
(PAMS) 66th Annual Physicians Ball
was a smashing
success. The organization put a very elegant and classy
event that everyone enjoyed, which
started with a kick-off party celebrating Honorary
Guests at the Polish Consulate in Chicago on a Friday
afternoon. The President of PAMS Dr. Kornelia Krol
opened the program by introducing the speakers:
starting with Consul
Robert Rusiecki and Secretary of State of the Republic
of Poland
Jan Dziedziczak, who presented a congratulatory letter
for PAMS
from the Ministry of Foreign Affairs of the RP.
After the introductions the consulate
prepared delicious food for all the guests to enjoy,
these attendees came from various states of the United
States and from Europe.
Then at 4.00 P.M. they gave us a tour of
the city of Chicago. It was very cold and brisk day, but
still such a pleasure to see famous places and buildings
all over Chicago. Afterwards we were brought to the Polish
Museum, another beautiful building in the heart
of Chicago providing us with a tour of the Paderewski
Room.
Ignaly
Jan Paderewski was
a composer, the Prime Minister of the reborn Poland
considered a hero by the Polish people who had
accomplished much when alive to help his country. The
Managing Director of the Polish Museum is Ms. Malgorzata
Kot, MA, MLIS. When you go to Chicago make sure to
visit the Polish Museum - you can learn a lot about the
history and the life of the polish people, and you can
support the museum by buying products made in Poland at
their museum store.
The program began with welcome greetings by the
President of PAMS: Dr. Kornelia Krol and Dr. Ewa
Radwanska who is KF
Trustee introduced the Guest
Speaker: Alex Storozynski,
the Chairman of the Board of the Kosciuszko Foundation.
Mr. Storozynski is an award-winning journalist received
many awards starting with the "Lech Walesa Media Award,”
also decorated with Poland’s "Gold Cross of Merit" by
the President of Poland: Lech Kaczyski and the
"Officer's Cross of Merit" by President, Bronislaw
Komorowski. He has written so many popular books, and
has also received many media awards.
That evening an introduction of the
Honorary Members of PAMS started with
Dr. George Krol, Dr. Jaroslaw Maciejewski, Dr. Andrzej Matyja,
Dr. Malgorzata Szczerbo-Trojanowska and Dr. Andrzej
Jakubowiak.
There
were also special guests that night, Emilio Williams of
the University of Chicago and John Stubbington of Ashley
Livesey, MEDICOVER. After the program they
served delicious polish food and the music, a unique
experience was performed by the Medical Doctors
themselves.
The following evening the event at the
Gala Black Tie event at the Ritz Carlton Hotel began
with a beautiful cocktail reception. All the ladies
wearing beautiful, elegant evening gowns and the men
looking good in there Black Tie outfits while drinking
champagnes, wines and eating delicious hors
d'oeuvres while mingling
and having pictures taken with the other guests as
guests continued to arrive. Dr. Kornelia Krol and a
member of her board was in the reception line to receive
their VIP GUESTS and Dignitaries headed by the Governor
Bruce Rauner of
Chicago and his lovely wife.

Anchor and Reporter, ABC7 Chicago and Candace
Jordan, Journalist,
Chicago Tribune opened the program and introduced
the President
of PAMS Dr. Kornelia Krol who
welcomed all guests and presented the guest of honorMr.
Alex Storozynski. After the speech of the Guest
of Honor came with greetings from Hon.
Governor Bruce Rauner of Illinois,
Hon. Mark Kirk, US Senator, Hon. Bob Dold, US
Representative and Hon. Ryszard Schnepe, the Ambassador
of Poland. Following
that was the introduction of Honorary members which we
mentioned above. There was a special recognition for
Dr.
Pioter Witkowski and Mr. Emilio Williams, both received
the Sports Award.
This year was the 70th
anniversary
of the Polish-American Medical Society (PAMS) in
Chicago
Throughout its’ history their society has become one of the respected
organizations of the Chicago area considered a very
influential Polonia organization, and are a member of
the Polish-American Congress. A very important local
affiliate of the Chicago Medical Society whose present
President is Dr. Kathy Tynus, her roots are also from
Poland, and PAMS welcomed her as a member. They have
over 480 physicians-members representing many
specialties - they are the largest Polish Medical émigré
organization in the world. Every year they have an
annual Physicians Ball
to benefit charities.
The Gala is to benefit the Paderewski
Symphony Orchestra and Educational
Funds of the Polish-American Medical Society. The
Paderewski Symphony Orchestra formerly called The
Polish-American Symphony Orchestra (PASO).
Its’ mission is to organize concerts of
Polish music, to promote Polish music and culture in the
U.S. and to provide music education. The Director of the
symphony is
Ms. Barbara Bilszta who is also an accomplished
musician.
The Educational Funds of the
Polish-American Medical Society: PAMS Academic
Fund
provides tuition scholarships to qualified graduate
students from Chicago area- for studies at a medical,
dental or veterinary school in the US or in Poland. The
Examination and Science Fund: its purpose is to
provide financial help towards tuition cost of the
course preparing medical graduates from Poland to pass
the American licensing examination, and to award
research, science and achievement grants and prizes to
recognize outstanding efforts of a medical students and
graduates of Polish descent in the Chicago area.
The food served that night was a
sumptuous Filet Mignon Steak and Lobster in which every
guest thoroughly enjoyed. After dinner there were
several tables offering delicious desserts made by (Oak
Mill Bakery). I am still having dreams about these
lovely desserts. The desserts were accompanied by
flowing Champagne ‘till the wee hours of the night.
After the dinner the entertainment
started with the Polonaise and waltz dance by
Poloni
Ensamble.
The dancers were wearing beautiful costumes and
they danced so gracefully, and after their dance they
invited the guests to join them on the dance floor.
Yours truly was one of them and it was truly a lot of
fun. This was followed by the legendary Boney
M (from England) and the Dancing Green. Both
groups were very good. The guests had so much fun
dancing ‘till the wee hours. It was such a pleasure to
see these hard working doctors enjoying themselves that
night. As you know everyone deserves and needs a good
break from their hard days’ work. The following day was
Sunday, Dr. Kornelia Krol invited us to her beautiful
home for another delightful spread of food that was
enjoyed by all of us.
