Over 230 patrons
attended Guild Hall’s 29th Academy of the Arts
Lifetime Achievement Awards held on Monday March 10 at
Sotheby’s in NYC. The star studded evening honored Barbara
Walters for Literary Arts and Media; Philippe de Montebello
for Visual Arts; Blythe Danner for Performing Arts; and Jo
Carole and Ronald S. Lauder who received the Special Award
for Leadership and Philanthropy. Alec Baldwin was the Master
of Ceremonies with special guest presenters Alan Alda, Bob
Balaban, Ann Tenenbaum and Michael Lynne. On display were
selected works from The Museum at Guild Hall’s permanent
collection. The evening’s lead sponsor was BankUnited and
Crozier the co-sponsor.
The Academy honors
both summer and year-round East End residents who have
demonstrated excellence in the visual, literary, and
performing arts. Some past recipients include: Nathan Lane,
Laurie Anderson, Jon Robin Baitz, Steven Spielberg, Billy
Joel, Elaine Stritch, Mel Brooks and Guild Hall board member
Alec Baldwin for Performing Arts; John Alexander, Julian
Schnabel, Willem de Kooning, Roy Lichtenstein, Bruce Weber,
April Gornik and Chuck Close for Visual Arts; Walter
Isaacson, Kurt Vonnegut, E. L. Doctorow, Edward Albee,
Joseph Heller and Joe Pintauro for Literary Arts; and
Special Awards to Eli Wallach, Anne Jackson, Dina Merrill
and Peter Jennings, to name a few.
