NEW YORK, October
12, 2011: Their Royal Highnesses Crown Prince Alexander and
Crown Princess Katherine of Serbia attended yesterday
a fundraising lunch at Le Cirque restaurant in New York City
to benefit Lifeline New York humanitarian organization,
which operates under the patronage of HRH Crown Princess
Katherine.
The Royal Couple
were joined by HRH Prince Dimitri of Yugoslavia, Audrey
Gruss, Joanne de Guardiola, Barbara Taylor Bradford, Dr.
Ruth Westheimer, Petra Nemcova, Jean Doumanian, Katherine
Bryan, Eva Jeanbart-Lorenzotti, Darcy Rigas, Lisa Woodward,
Shirley Lord Rosenthal, among others. This event was in aid
of children without parents, and other victims from the
conflict in Serbia, which shattered the social and medical
infrastructure of the country.
Everyone enjoyed a
marvelous performance by the famous Serbian opera singer
Jadranka Jovanovic, accompanied by Nikola Rackov on the
piano. The performance of Mrs. Jadranka Jovanovic was a part
of her “Pearls of World Music” United States tour. The
special guest at this lunch was Serbian-American author Tea
Obreht whose New York Times bestselling book “The
Tiger’s Wife” is set in Serbia.
Part of the program
was an auction where guests had the opportunity to bid for
items donated by Asprey’s, Saks Fifth Avenue, Pologeorgis, Diane
von Furstenberg, Tincati as well as other luxury brands.
During the month of
October, philanthropist and supermodel Petra Nemcova and the
renowned Dr. Ruth are part of Lifeline New York’s online
auction (www.charitybuzz.com.
They are providing a rare opportunity for bidders to “win” a
lunch with them. Ms. Obreht is also participating -- she is
auctioning off a private lecture by her to a book club,
class, etc.
Cecily West,
Executive Director of Lifeline New York, explains the
importance of these activities: "While the new democratic
government is working vigorously, children and other
defenseless people are still in need of basic medical
supplies, food, clothing and other necessities.”
To achieve its
mission, Lifeline New York works with the HRH Crown Princess
Katherine Humanitarian Foundation in Belgrade, which follows
the principle of its founder who believes “we work for the
benefit of all those in need, regardless of ethnicity or
religion since we believe there are no borders in
suffering”. One of their key programs is being “the parent“
to orphans by addressing their physical, emotional, medical,
recreational and educational needs. In this role, the
organizations are focused on unleashing the potential of
these children and helping to provide
them with a brighter future.
