September 26, 2007, New York City. More than 350 members of
New York's philanthropic business, government and civic
communities gathered at the fifth annual Tuesday's Children "A
Toast to New York" benefit honoring Katie Couric-Anchor and
Managing Editor of the CBS Evening News with Katie Couric;
Larry Levy-Founder and Chairman of the America's Camp
Foundation; and Patrick Ryan- Founder and Executive Chairman
of AON Corporation for their unwavering support of 9/11
families. The event was held at the New York Marriott Marquis
Hotel and was emceed by WFAN Radio Personality Mike Francesca.
Tuesday's Children Board Chairman, Jonathan S. Barnett and
organization President Carmine Calzonetti presented the 2007
Leadership Awards to Messrs. Levy and Ryan. Ms. Couric was
unable to attend due to work obligations, but graciously
accepted her Leadership Award via videoconference. She
congratulated Tuesday's Children for all it has done to assist
9/11 families.
Ms. Couric said, "Over the past six years I have been so
impressed with the great work Tuesday's Children has done not
only for the families who lost loved ones on September 11th,
but especially all you do for the children."
Mr. Calzonetti said, "every year we come together to reconfirm
our commitment to the families of 9/11, and our resolve that
they will never walk alone. Year after year, with the generous
support of donors and partners, Tuesday's Children continues
to meet the ever-changing needs of our families."
Mr. Barnett added, "Tonight we are humbled to honor three
individuals- Katie Couric, Larry Levy and Patrick Ryan- who
have demonstrated unparalleled leadership in the aftermath of
9/11 and a continued commitment to all those affected by this
tragedy. On behalf of Tuesday's Children and the families and
ground zero rescue and recovery workers we serve, please
accept our deepest gratitude."
Tuesday's Children is a non-profit family service organization
that has made a long-term commitment to every individual who
was directly impacted by the events of September 11, 2001,
providing a wide range of programming including mentoring,
educational and career guidance, leadership training and life
management programs, all designed to address the unmet needs
of 9/11 family members at each and every stage of life and
recovery. Tuesday's Children's programs are created by the
families with one simple goal-to develop the resources and
support necessary for our families not only to recover, but to
reach their full potential.
