The New-York
Historical Society
celebrated two American
Presidents, Bill Clinton and
Abraham Lincoln, at its
annual History Makers Gala
on Wednesday, October 7,
2009. President Clinton
inaugurated the major
exhibition Lincoln and
New York at the benefit,
at which he was
also honored with the
2009 History Makers Award
and deliver the keynote
address.
The Gala Chairs were: Helen

III, Richard Gilder, Diana
Roesch DiMenna, Martin J.
Gross, Roger Hertog,
Patricia D. Klingenstein,
Stuart J. Rabin.
The Honorary Chair wasVernon
Jordan
Guests at the
gala had the
opportunity to enjoy a
private viewing of
Lincoln and New York,
the first
museum exhibition to
examine the crucial
relationship between America
$B!G (Js greatest President
and its greatest city. On
view from October 9,
2009 through March 25, 2010,
the exhibition is the
Historical Society $B!G (Js
major contribution to the
nation $B!G (Js Lincoln
Bicentennial and traces the
period from Lincoln $B!G (Js
entrance into New York $B!G
(Js life with his
Presidential campaign speech
at Cooper Union to his
departure as a secular
martyr with his New York
funeral procession.
The gala was
sponsored by Brooks
Brothers, which
generously lent the
exhibition a meticulous
replica of the Brooks
Brothers coat worn by
Lincoln on the night of his
assassination.
The 2009 History Makers Gala
will contribute support to
N-YHS $B!G (Js exhibitions
and education initiatives.
