Celebrating the Art of Fiction
The dining room at the New York Racquet and Tennis Club was
filled to overflowing on Monday night, December 6, as
a stellar gathering of literary and publishing luminaries
celebrated the art of fiction at The Center for Fiction’s
2010 Benefit and Awards Dinner. The Center is the
only non-profit literary organization in the United States
devoted entirely to fiction. (www.centerforfiction.org)
The evening’s emcee was Nora Ephron and its Honorary
Co-Chairs were New Yorker editor David Remnick and Toni
Morrison. Author Richard Ford presented the Maxwell E
Perkins Award to Award to
literary agent Amanda Urban of International Creative
Management, Inc. (ICM) and John
Pipkin, the 2009 First Novel Prize winner, presented the
2010 Flaherty- Dunnan First Novel Prize to Karl Marlantes
for Matterhorn.
The mission of the center is to encourage people to read and
value fiction and to support and celebrate its creation and
enjoyment. With all its resources, including an exceptional
book collection, beautiful reading room, and ever-growing
array of creative programs, the Center seeks to serve the
reading public, to build a larger audience for fiction, and
to create a place where readers and writers can share their
passion for literature.
