UN Ambassador for Biodiversity Edward Norton Announces Earth
Day Challenge on CrowdRise
Groupon to
Give $25K, $15, $10K Prizes for
Greenest Causes
|
New York - April 16, 2012 -
Edward Norton and Groupon are
challenging the world to support as many
green causes as possible this Earth Day
by hosting a
crowd-sourced giving competition
on CrowdRise and the stakes
couldn't be greener!
Groupon has partnered with Norton, the
United Nations Goodwill Ambassador for
Biodiversity, to offer $50K in donation
prizes to the three campaigns that raise
the most money in the
Groupon Challenge on CrowdRise.
Anyone can take the Groupon Challenge by
visiting CrowdRise and donating to or
fundraising for a green cause of their
choice. The campaign that raises the
most money before midnight (Eastern
Standard Time) on Tuesday, May 15 will
receive an additional $25,000 from
Groupon for its organization, while the
second- and third- highest fundraising
campaigns will receive $15,000 and
$10,000, respectively.
Competing charities to date include,
Conservation International,
Ian Somerhalder Foundation,
Global Green,
Conservation Lands Foundation,
Friends of the Virgin Islands Nation
Park,
Wiser Earth
and
National Wildlife Humane Society,
among others.
" I
think it's very clear that figuring out
how to live sustainably within the
environmental systems that support us is
the defining challenge of our era," said
Norton. "Earth Day is important because
it's about waking up more people to that
challenge and committing to engage in it
ourselves."
Norton co-founded CrowdRise in 2010 to
make it fun to give to and fundraise for
a favorite nonprofit organization by
empowering people with engaging game
theory and a modern approach to charity.
" Social
good and collective action is in the
fiber of Groupon's DNA," said Patty
Huber, Director of Groupon
Grassroots,the latest iteration of
Groupon's social giving program. "We
have an amazing platform in our more
than 33 million active global customers
to activate citizens and positively
impact the communities where we live and
serve. It's an honor to work with an
accomplished ambassador and thought
leader like Edward Norton and his
platform CrowdRise and we're thrilled to
join forces to increase awareness,
generate enthusiasm for environmental
sustainability and give these Grassroots
partners the spotlight and funds each
deserves."
