11th Annual Gala
Once
again, the Toigo Foundation celebrated its partnership with
the Finance industry during its 11th annual Gala
at the Waldorf =Astoria in New York City. The theme
“Business Unusual” presented thought-provoking conversations
with four industry leaders presenting diversity of
experience, investment focus, gender and perspective on
leadership, a spirit of inclusion, the financial markets and
the important of the work of the Toigo Foundation.
The
discussion led by legendary journalist Ted
Koppel highlighted key factors which
underscore the call for a new leadership paradigm to move
business forward today and how organizations with more
inclusive perspectives can accelerate their performance and
impact as we move into an increasingly global landscape.
Toigo Fellows Share Their Perspectives
The
evening began with welcome messages from two Toigo Fellows
– Khalilah Karim (Class of
2013)
and Vasco Bilbao-Bastida (Class of 2014)
both from Wharton who shared their personal journeys to
business school and their vision for positive social impact
in the future.
Texas Teachers' Honored
Stuart Bernstein, Portfolio Manager and
Head of Emerging Manager programs for the Teachers’
Retirement System of Texas, accepted the Innovative
Leadership Award presented to the fund for the innovative
thinking and commitment to the recent implementation and
success of its emerging manager program.
The
award was presented by Nili Gilbert, Toigo
Alumna and Co-Founder/Portfolio Manager of Matarin
Capital Management.
Matarin was awarded a
Toigo Foundation Bridge to Business grant in 2011 to
support its launch as an emerging asset management
enterprise. |
Passing the Gavel
Toigo Board Leadership
2012 marked a year of leadership
transition for the Toigo Board of
Directors. Having served for seven
years as Chair of Board,
Marcos Rodriguez passed
this leadership responsibility to
David Marchick,
Managing Director of The
Carlyle Group.
Announced at the 2012 Gala, David is
a natural successor having
demonstrated great interest and
enthusiasm for the organization and
its ongoing impact in the industry.
In David’s acceptance speech, he
eloquently shared his honor with
Toigo Alumni at Carlyle and the
leadership of the firm who embrace
diversity and support his ascent to
this role.
Institutional Investor Perspective
Mary Cahill,
CIO of Emory University
(and Toigo Governing Board Member)
is joined by Toigo Alumnus
Reginald Sanders, Director
of Investments at the
W.K.Kellogg Foundation in a
discussion on the on the trends and
expectations of sophisticated,
multi-billion dollar institutional
investors and provide insight as to
how investment managers can best
address these demands.

In a growing trend, institutional &
high net worth investors are showing
interest in investments that balance
the traditional investment return
objective with sustainability from a
social and environmental
perspective, as well as focus on the

Business Fund and
Indrani De, of New
Amsterdam Partners -
allowed participants the opportunity
to begin to think and learn about
this trend, and where there may be
opportunities to shape their careers
or guide their firms to begin to
take part in it.
