As many of you know, our
returning military men
and women face
tremendous challenges.
Our veterans often face
years of rehabilitation
from serious wounds,
difficult readjustment
to civilian life, and
very often, the need to
find private sector
employment in a tight
job market.
STAND FOR THE TROOPS is
on the “frontline” to
help raise funds for our
soldiers, with an
emphasis on helping
those suffering from
post-traumatic stress
disorders. Col. David
Hackworth and his wife
Eilhys England
established this
non-partisan and
non-profit organization
in 1997. The
organization gives our
troops and those
returning home a voice
that reaches Congress,
the public and the media
concerning their
physical, mental and
emotional wellbeing.

In May, at Mitchells of
Westport, Connecticut,
STAND FOR THE TROOPS
sponsored a fundraiser
called "You Are Not
Alone." Contributions
from the evening will go
towards helping a top
medical task force treat
seriously
traumatized soldiers.
This task force is also
working with the CDS
Warrior Salute on a new
pilot treatment program.
A comprehensive national
referral resource is
also in the works.
The event at
Mitchell’s, co-hosted by
one of the owners Bill
Mitchell, honored
Colonel David H.
Hackworth and all of
America’s troops. The
hosts were: Eilhys
England Hackworth -
Chair of Stand for the
Troops, Major
General John Batiste -
US Army (Ret.), Dr.
Henry Grayson, David
Theis - 2nd Selection
of Greenwich, the
Honorable Gordon
Joseloff - First
Selection of Westport
and the always wonderful
Maura Kalloway. And
even though there were
strong winds and heavy
rains, the event was
packed by a gold coast
guest list willing to
opened their wallets and
purses for this worthy
charity.
The night started
with Leslie Orofino
singing God Bless
America, followed
Westport Police Honor
Guard presenting the
colors. Wine and
cocktails were served,
and some very skilled
chefs served up tray
after tray of delicious
food. Music was
provided by 45 RPM – a
young, brash, and
talented group of
musicians.
The emcee for the event
was Storm N. Norman from
WEBE 108FM and the
auctioneer was David
Smith. Many businesses
donated high-end items
for the auction and the
guest were happy to bid,
bid, and bid more for
this worthy cause!
One of the highlights of
the evening was a
special showing of the
AR-1 Supercar. This is
a real “hybrid” – a
cross between a
racetrack machine and a
luxury car. Designed by
Nick Alessi, this
vehicle takes the “fast
and the furious” to a
whole new level. The
car was a perfect
compliment to the
evening – an American
made force on the
frontline of automobile
engineering! A true
American dream machine.
