Caron
New York, the regional office of
Caron Treatment Centers honored real estate expert,
author and philanthropist Denise LeFrak Calicchio as well as
legendary musicians Frankie
Valli and front man for the Goo Goo Dolls,
Johnny Rzeznik at its 20th Annual Gala on Wednesday May
14th at Cipriani on
42nd Street in Manhattan.
This annual event raises funds for addiction
treatment scholarships to Caron as well as the services and
growth of Caron’s New
York Center. Caron is a nationally recognized nonprofit
provider of alcohol and drug addiction treatment, which
gives more money towards addiction treatment scholarships
than any other organization – and last year alone
provided more than 16 million dollars to individuals and
their families. Caron New York continues its mission of
providing “Recovery for Life” through unique services
offered for adolescents, young adults, adults and their
families.
Each year Caron New York celebrates
individuals who have made an impact through their art, their
philanthropy, their vocation and their scope and audience.
Previous Artist Award recipients include Roseanne Cash, Judy
Collins, Art Garfunkel, Patti LaBelle and Paul Williams.
This year’s celebrants will prove to present another
unforgettable event.
Denise
LeFrak Calicchio: The Richard J Caron Award of Excellence
Denise LeFrak Calicchio, real estate expert,
mother, wife, philanthropist, and author, began working
professionally in real estate in 1986 in the family
business, the LeFrak Organization. She then joined Sotheby’s
as a specialist in Manhattan real estate in 1990. Her many
charitable and cultural pursuits include serving as Trustee
of Marymount College for 13 years as well as on a wide
variety of committee and boards including the Women’s Bank
Advisory Board, The Metropolitan Museum’s Chairman’s
Council, the Executive Board of The Albert Einstein College
of Medicine, the advisory board of The Writing Center at
Hunter College, the board of the Cancer Research and
Treatment Fund, and Long Island University. She travels
extensively with the Guggenheim Museum and she has been the
Co-Chair of the Patron’s Circle of the Guggenheim since
2000. Denise is also on the Contemporary Art Council at the
Museum of Modern Art and serves on its nominating committee
selecting future members. Denise has co-written two books,
offering a look at iconic NYC real estate from an insider’s
view. High Rise, Low Down, written with her friends
Eunice David and Kathryn Livingston and Rooftop Gardens,written
with Roberta Amon. In addition, she was the inspiration for
the 1963 hit song Denise, Denise by Randy & the
Rainbows.
Frankie
Valli: The Caron Artist Award
Frankie Valli came to fame in 1962 as the
lead singer of the Four
Seasons. From 1962 to 1978, they sold more than 100
million records. With 71 chart hits they influenced numerous
recording artists and were inducted into the Rock and Roll
Hall of Fame. Tony-winning musical, Jersey Boys, now
in its 8th season touring globally, depicts Frankie Valli’s
life and times and features his classic songs “Big Girls
Don’t Cry,” “Walk Like a Man,” “Rag Doll,” and “Can’t Take
My Eyes Off You”. Frankie Valli has toured almost
continuously since 1962.
John
Rzeznik: The Caron Recovery Advocate Award
John Rzeznik, singer, songwriter, guitarist,
and producer is best known as a founding member of The
Goo Goo Dolls. The Goo Goo Dolls are the only artist to
have three songs, all written by John Rzeznik, on
Billboard's "Top 100 Songs from 1992-2012" including the
Number One slot, for "Iris." John Rzeznik has also been
honored with the Songwriters Hall of Fame Hal David
Starlight Award. Rzeznik has penned hundreds of songs and
between the years 1987 and 2013, he and the band toured the
globe continuously and recorded and released ten studio
albums, a compilation, a live DVD, and a Greatest Hits,
selling a total of 10 million albums, and the band continues
to tour in support of their 10th studio album, Magnetic.
