FEGS Health & Human Services Celebrates 80th
Anniversary
FEGS Health &
Human Services celebrated its 80th Anniversary at
its Annual Dinner at Cipriani 42nd Street in
Manhattan, on May 20, 2014.. Long-time FEGS friend and
supporter Ernie Anastos from FOX 5 News was the
emcee.
The capacity crowd paid special tribute to retiring
Executive Vice President and CEO of UJA-Federation of New
York, John Ruskay. John’s visionary leadership and
deep commitment to the Jewish and broader community has
changed lives and built a lasting legacy.
Charlie Rose,
Emmy Award-winning journalist, was presented with FEGS’
inaugural New York Legend Award by James Tisch,
President and CEO of Loews Corporation, Chairman of WNET and
President/Chairman Emeritus of the FEGS Board of Directors.
Rose received the award for his outstanding journalistic
contributions, which have informed, illuminated, and
inspired the lives of countless New Yorkers.
Tisch
also presented Joanne
and Joe Stein, Jr. with
a
Lifetime Partnership
Award. Joe
Stein, Managing Director at Neuberger Berman, has served as
Chairman of FEGS’ Board of Directors since 1997. Al
Miller, FEGS CEO from 1976 until his retirement in 2005,
presented a Lifetime Partnership Award to Judi and Stuart
Oltchick. Oltchick, President of Stuart Portfolio
Consultants, is President of FEGS’ Board. Joe, Joanne,
Stuart and Judi are deeply committed supporters of FEGS and
their contributions have been immeasurable.
Pamela Mirels
was honored with
the agency’s first
Young Leadership Award. She is the founder of CultureHorde,
an organization that connects its members with exclusive
cultural events in New York. An inspiring entrepreneur, Pam
exemplifies the creativity, commitment, vitality and
compassion of the next generation of leaders.
The most-memorable
evening also included the presentation of FEGS’ Inspiration
Award to four FEGS program participants who overcame
extraordinary challenges
and barriers. The award read, “For all you have
accomplished. For all we know you will achieve.”
“The celebration of
FEGS’ 80th year is a testament to our founders’
vision, a tradition of being responsible one for the other,
enduring partnerships with government, the philanthropic,
business, and voluntary sectors and many generous
individuals,
” FEGS’ Chief Executive Officer Gail Magaliff said. “I am
inspired to see so many intergenerational guests tonight,
the children, grandchildren, parents and siblings of our
Board and other guests as we celebrate our shared commitment
to serving people who face barriers to economic and personal
independence and helping them
achieve success.”
The benefit was
attended by over 500 guests and raised over $1.4 million
for the organization.
