Banking on Aging:
Helping to Secure the Future
On November 3, 2014, The Carter Burden Center
for the Aging hosted its 43rd Anniversary
Gala, Banking
on Aging: Helping to Secure the Future. Michael
P. McLaughlin, US Country Head, Macquarie Group,
received the Business Leadership Award, and Len
McNally, Program
Director, New York Community Trust, received the
Humanitarian Award. The Gala Chair was Walter
Pye, and the Vice Chairs were Susan
Burden and William
Goldman, Julie and David
Méneret, Margaret and Ian
Smith, Stacey
Gillis Weber and Jeffrey
A. Weber. The
event, which was held at The Mandarin Oriental Hotel in
Manhattan, welcomed 270 guests and raised over $650,000 for
the nonprofit.
Michael P.
McLaughlin serves
as the Chief Executive Officer and the Chief Investment
Officer of Macquarie Credit Investment Management, Inc.,
which is the investment manager for the Macquarie Credit
Nexus Fund. McLaughlin also represents the US region on the
Macquarie Group Executive Committee in his role as US
Country Head. He launched and currently leads the firm's
Credit Trading Division, and also founded the "buy side"
credit proprietary trading business known as Principal
Trading. McLaughlin secured a $500 million investment from
Macquarie Group to seed the Nexus Fund. McLaughlin and his
wife, Debra, support the Greenwich United Way, the Greenwich
Art Society and the Junior League of Greenwich. They are
also significant supporters of Reserve Aid, which helps
supports returning US veterans and reservists.
Len
McNally serves
as Program Director for New York Community Trust. His
grantmaking portfolio includes health policy, biomedical
research, aging, environmental health, and AIDS. Prior to
joining The Trust, he worked to develop a
capitation-financed program for highly disabled elders and
the country's first day treatment program for people with
AIDS. He is a fellow of the New York Academy of Medicine,
board member of Grantmakers in Health, member of the
Commission for an Aging Friendly New York City, and member
of the advisory committee of the Jonas Center for Nursing
Excellence.
The Macquarie Group Foundation is the lead
sponsor for the nonprofit Carter Burden Gallery in Chelsea.
The Carter Burden Center
for the Aging, Inc. is a non-profit agency established in
1971 by the late Carter Burden when he was a New York City
Councilman. The mission is to promote the well-being of
seniors, 60 and older, through a continuum of services,
advocacy and volunteer programs oriented to individual,
family and community needs. The Carter Burden Center is
dedicated to supporting the efforts of older people to live
