New York (December 16, 2014) – Supporters
of Inner-City Scholarship Fund raised record-setting $3
million at the 39th Annual
Inner-City Scholarship Fund Award Dinner on
Monday, December 14. Over 500 guests attended the event at
the Mandarin Oriental in Manhattan. Funds from the evening
will help support Inner-City in its mission to provide
tuition assistance for underprivileged students attending
inner-city Catholic schools within the Archdiocese of New
York.
His Eminence, Timothy Michael Cardinal Dolan, Archbishop
of New York presented the Inner-City Scholarship Fund Award
to Edward
D. Herlihy and Peter
Grauer presented
the inaugural James B. Lee, Jr. LifeLink Award to Michael
X. McBride for
their commitment to inner-city students and Catholic
schools. CBS Sunday Morning’s correspondent Mo
Rocca served
at the Master of Ceremonies.
“A quality education is one of the greatest gifts you can
give to a child,” said Susan
George, Executive
Director of Inner-City Scholarship Fund. “The supporters in
this room have given countless students this priceless gift
and we are here to celebrate their generosity.”
Over the years, the Award Dinner’s Honorees
and Chairs have included many of New York City’s most
powerful leaders in business, finance, government, and the
arts, whose dedication and involvement have been absolutely
crucial to keeping Inner-City up and running.
During the program, Adrian Gonzalez of All Hallows High
School in the Bronx, gave remarks on how his scholarship
through Inner-City Scholarship Fund has greatly impacted his
life and education. Adrian was selected to attend a
leadership conference in Ireland, something he never would
have thought possible. Entertainment from Our Lady of
Lourdes School Choir opened the program.
About Inner-City Scholarship Fund
Inner-City Scholarship Fund was founded in 1971 by the late
Terence Cardinal Cooke and a group of prominent executives
whose goal was to preserve Catholic school education as viable
choice for all children. Today,
Inner-City provides tuition assistance to over 7,000
Catholic school students (92% minority and 33% non-Catholic)
in Manhattan, the Bronx and Staten Island. An impressive
98% of seniors attending Inner-City supported schools
graduate, and 96% percent pursue higher education at some of
the finest universities in the nation. |
