UJA-Federation of New York hosted its
Downtown Event at Marquee in New York City with nearly 300
prominent New Yorkers, influential in their fields of real
estate, finance, fashion, entertainment, and more.
The Downtown Event celebrates the
strengthening and rebuilding of the downtown community. The
Downtown Division, chaired by Lisa Silverstein of
Silverstein Properties, launched in 2011 as a key part of
UJA-Federation’s Manhattan Division efforts to engage
downtown residents and ensure a strong and vibrant Jewish
presence in Lower Manhattan.
Since its inception, the Downtown Division
has engaged Lower Manhattan residents by initiating events
such as the Downtown Current Events Series, an interactive
series of programs examining topics of interest based on
current events around the world, and The Briefcase Project,
career empowerment workshops for women with FEGS Health &
Human Services, a UJA-Federation network agency located
downtown. The Division has since seen an increase in the
number of donors in the area.
Chairing the event this year were Lisa
Silverstein, Marty Burger of Silverstein Properties, and Ben
Shaoul of Magnum Real Estate Group.

address issues that matter most to them, pooling their
resources to care for New Yorkers of all backgrounds and
Jews everywhere, to connect people to their Jewish
communities, and to respond to crises close to home and
around the globe. Working with nearly 100 network
beneficiary agencies, synagogues, and other Jewish
organizations, UJA-Federation is the world’s largest local
