The DiMenna Children’s History Museum at the New-York Historical Society hosted its fifth annual Family Benefit Party―Hamilton Times! Parents and children (ages 4 – 14) will have the opportunity to meet Alexander Hamilton and discover more about his life and times with fun, interactive activities throughout the Museum:

o   Met a teenage Alexander Hamilton and learn about his childhood home in the Caribbean and his job as a clerk for a colonial merchant

o   Found the books Hamilton used to educate himself and the secret activities they contain

o   Decorated a leather bookmark with gold stamps

o   Met Hamilton as an aide-de-camp during the Revolutionary War, along with George Washington, American Revolution soldiers, and Oneida Nation member Polly Cooper

o   Visited a Revolutionary War encampment and help out as an aide-de-camp, searching for supplies testing your translating skills

o   Toasted Hamilton and his role in New York’s ratification of the Constitution, and help decorate The Hamilton, a huge ship-shaped float

o   Posed as the figure on the $10 bill in an interactive photo booth

o   Tested your knowledge of Hamilton with a true-or-false quiz

o   Dueled with Aaron Burr and decide whether you want to throw away your shot as Hamilton did

o   Decorate a bejeweled ring, like the kind Elizabeth Hamilton wore after Hamilton’s death

Funds raised at the event help the New-York Historical Society and the DiMenna Children’s History Museum to continue providing exceptional opportunities for children and families to discover and explore our nation’s history. Through interactive museum experiences and unique family programming—as well as school programs serving students at their schools and in the Museum—the New-York Historical Society annually serves more than 40,000 family visitors, 200,000 New York City school students, and thousands of teachers.

ABOUT THE DIMENNA CHILDREN’S HISTORY MUSEUM
The DiMenna Children’s History Museum is a museum-within-a-museum that explores New York and American history through the eyes of children of the past. Occupying the New-York Historical Society’s entire lower level, it includes character-based pavilions, the Barbara K. Lipman Children’s History Library, interactive exhibits, and games. The DiMenna Children’s History Museum encourages children to identify with the people whose enterprise and creativity changed the course of our history. It also hosts a series of family programs, from Sunday story hours to arts and crafts. All ages can enjoy and learn in the DiMenna Children’s History Museum, but the exhibits are targeted at ages 8–13.

ABOUT THE NEW-YORK HISTORICAL SOCIETY
Founded in 1804, the New-York Historical Society has a mission to explore the richly layered history of New York City and State and the country, and to serve as a national forum for the discussion of issues surrounding the making and meaning of history. New York Historical is recognized for engaging the public with deeply researched and far-ranging exhibitions, such as Alexander Hamilton: The Man Who Made Modern America; Slavery in New York; Nature and the American Vision: The Hudson River School at the New-York Historical Society; Lincoln and New York; The Grateful Dead: Now Playing at the New-York Historical Society; Nueva York; Revolution! The Atlantic World Reborn; WWII & NYC; The Armory Show at 100: Modern Art and Revolution, Chinese American: Exclusion/Inclusion, Superheroes in Gotham, and The Battle of Brooklyn. Supporting these exhibitions and related education programs is one of the world’s greatest collections of historical artifacts, works of American art, and other materials documenting the history of the United States and New York.
