The MAC AIDS Fund Commits to a 40%
Increase in Funding to HIV/AIDS Organizations Around the
World in 2014
Largest Corporate Funder of HIV/AIDS
Set to Donate Nearly
$10 Million More to Help End the AIDS Epidemic
WHAT: The MAC
AIDS Fund, the heart and soul of MAC Cosmetics, announced
a significant increase in funding to HIV/AIDS
organizations across the world, pledging an increase of
$9.4 million dollars in 2014. The
increase brings the Fund’s yearly projected donation up
to almost $42 million, up from 2013.
The funding
was announced with a call to action for corporations and
governments to step up their commitment to fill the
global HIV/AIDS funding gap.
Recognized
as the leading corporate funder of HIV/AIDS work, the
MAC AIDS
Fund has raised more than $300 million USD in the fight
against HIV/AIDS since it was founded in 1994. Its funds
are raised exclusively through the sale of MAC’s VIVA
GLAM Lipstick
and Lipglass, donating 100 percent of the sale price to
help men, women and children living with and affected by
HIV/AIDS worldwide.
MAC AIDS
Fund grant priorities in FY14 will be in the areas of
HIV/AIDS prevention, lifesaving treatment and care and
retention in care with a keen focus on youth-oriented
programming. A
large portion ? 7 million dollars - of the new funding
will be targeted toward expanding treatment access in
countries hardest hit by the epidemic.
MAC AIDS Fund
global executive director Nancy Mahon announced the news
this morning while speaking at a Town Hall Talk
is Cheap: Saving Lives, Ending AIDS, and Putting Our
Money Where Our Mouth Is. The
event, hosted by The
Atlantic and
MAC AIDS Fund, convened experts from around the world
online and at the New York Public Library to bring the
fight against AIDS to the forefront of international
conversation.
QUOTES:
“We fund programs that bring the world closer to ending
AIDS once and for all. There are more programs now than
ever that work toward this goal, an exciting reality
that necessitates more funding and bigger thinking from
the AIDS community at large. We’re confident that these
funds can make a big impact on the lives of thousands
and thousands, both today and in the future as we move
closer to an AIDS-free generation.” Nancy Mahon, global
executive director, MAC AIDS Fund
“If ending
AIDS is going to be more than a talking point, more
businesses need to step up to the plate and donate money
and services. With our increase in funding, we hope not
only to address the pressing needs of the AIDS community
but also to inspire other brands and donors to step up
to the plate and join us.” John Demsey, Group President,
Estee Lauder Companies Inc.
