On Thursday, October
3rd, Hedy Klineman debuted Buddhas
in the Garden, a
solo exhibition of more than 50 paintings, during a
reception at Tibet House US. Over 200 guests were
welcomed, including Sharon
Bush, Maggie
Norris, Michael
Musto, Unik
Ernest, Adrian
Elcock, Reginald
Van Lee, Joy
Marks, Robin
Cofer, Nicole
Noonan, Julie
Hayek, Elaine
Sargent, Madame
Mayhem and Consuelo
Vanderbilt Costin, to
the exhibition opening, which will be on display through
December 12, 2013 and is open to the public. Hedy
Klineman will donate 50% of the proceeds from the sales
of her Buddhas
in the Garden collection
to benefit Tibet House US.
Hedy Klineman employs
vibrant colors and spiritual imagery to offer the keen
social insight that has marked her forty-year career.
The exhibition included acrylic paintings and
silkscreens on canvas and paper. Returning to a
familiar face, the ethereal stone Buddha that graced her
1990s oeuvre, Klineman deploys the mystical figure again
and again like a mantra, coalescing the collection and
adding a calming, meditative presence.
Her works have been
exhibited at the Whitney, Rubin, Hood, and Vizcaya
Museums, among others, as well as in solo exhibitions at
Bridgewater Lustberg Gallery, Benrimon Contemporary,
Dorothy Blau, and Vered Modern, and various
international institutions. Her paintings can be found
in the private collections of Richard Gere, Uma Thurman,
Patrick McMullan, Shelley and Donald Rubin, and others.
