global maternal-health advocate and founder of “Every Mother
Counts,” joined Dr.
Mary D’Alton, director of NewYork-Presbyterian/Columbia’s
Sloane Hospital for Women for “A Conversation About Women’s
Health in New York.” Dr.
Steve J. Corwin, CEO of NewYork-Presbyterian Hospital,
hosted the event, which will support programs and clinical
care in the department of obstetrics and gynecology at
NewYork-Presbyterian/Columbia’s Sloan Hospital for Women.
A special viewing of “No
Woman, No Cry,” a documentary produced by Ms. Turlington
Burns, which includes an introduction about her own birth,
was also presented at the event.
Organized by the Sloane Hospital for Women Advisory
Committee, the benefit was attended by more than 100
attendees including Ellen

“Every Mother Counts” is
a campaign to end preventable deaths caused by pregnancy and
childbirth around the world. The initiative informs,
engages, and mobilizes new audiences
to take action to improve the health and well-being of girls
and women worldwide. “Every Mother Counts” was founded in
2010 by Christy Turlington Burns after completing her first
documentary film, No
Woman, No Cry as
a way to bring more attention to a global tragedy that
claims hundreds of thousands of lives each year.
