WHAT:
A celebration and special preview for the opening
of
New-York Historical Society’s fall exhibition The
Armory Show at 100: Modern Art and Revolution,
which opened to the public on October 11. Guests were
transported back to 1913 as they listened to Michael
Arenella & His Dreamland Orchestra performing Ragtime
music and were served desserts popular in 1913 by
Stephen STARR Events.
Celebrating the centennial of the 1913
Armory Show, the art event that changed the world, the
exhibition features more than 100 masterworks by
visionary European and American artists including Marcel
Duchamp, Henri Matisse, Pablo Picasso, Vincent van
Gogh, Paul Gauguin, Childe Hassam, Robert Henri, Marsden
Hartley, and more. New-York Historical contextualized
the legendary event by juxtaposing artworks with
artifacts and historical materials to present a wider
picture of American culture, politics and society of the
era.
